Kasaragod: A team led by city circle police inspector Babu Peringayat stopped a car on suspicion during late-night patrol at the Chowki junction.

Since the occupants failed to give proper information as required, they were interrogated. The questioning revealed that three persons, Shamsuddin (34) aka Sachu of Bangod Talangere, Karim (22) of Shiribagilu in Manjattadka and Amir (24) aka Ammi of Mubarak Manzil, Kukkar were in fact interstate vehicle thiefs.

The very car they were using had been lifted from Padubidri in Udupi in Karnataka. Further interrogation brought to light their involvement in a number of thefts in Kasaragad, Kannur and a few parts of Karnataka.

Two bikes were also seized from them. The police are looking into the chances of their having committed more thefts and having sold the vehicles.
