Mangalore: Workshop On ' Plant Diversity & Conservation' Held At Pilikula

Mangalore: A Two- day Workshop on ' Plant Diversity and Conservation'  was inaugurated by Dr  Raghavendra Rao, INSA Honorary Scientist & Former Head, National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow at Pilikula Nisargadama, here on August 10.

The workshop was conducted under the sponsorship of Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India and Pilikula Arboretum.

In his inaugural speech Dr Rao visualized the preview of history of inventions in Botany which are the realities of today. Chief guest Dr M Sanjappa inaugurated the “Rare Endangered Threatened” garden, and said that human beings are destroying the Bio-Diversity sphere and are also ruining the entire eco-system nature, and that we should conserve, protect and cultivate the endangered species of plants.

Prof K M Kaveriappa, Executive Director and Member Secretary of Karnataka State Higher Education Council presided over the function. Dr M D Rajanna released the brochure of Pilikula Arboretum which was sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.

Founder Executive Director, Pilikula Nisargadhama J R Lobo welcomed the gathering. Arboretum Sub-Committee Chairman Dr D Chandrashekhar Chowta delivered the vote of thanks. Information, Publicity and Public Relations Officer of pilikula Nisargdhama Vivek Nambiar compered for the programme.

Dr K G Bhat, Dr. Krishna Kumar, Dr H S Shenoy and Ramakrishna Marati were also present on the occasion.
