Mangalore: Fishing Boat Capsizes at Someshwar - Crew of 8 Saved, Loss Rs 30 Lakh

Mangalore: A deep-sea trawler fishing boat named T A Marine, belonging to Mohammed Shariff of Jeppu Mahakalipadpu, capsized off the Someshwar beach south of Ullal on Sunday as a result of rough seas.

However, eight crew members, most of them of Tamil Nadu origin, were rescued, by those in another fishing boat called Seabird. Those saved from death are Chiranjeevi, Kumar, Tirupati, Ravi, Raju, Karna, Vinod and Kiruba. They had sailed off on August 17.

This is the fourth incident of its kind in exactly three weeks.

August 5: A gillnet native craft belonging to P T Sadiq of Hoige Bazar sank near the estuary near Tota Bengre. Four crew were rescued by those in another boat. The loss was of Rs 4 lakh.

Aug 6: In two separate instances, two boats sank and eight crew were rescued. A purse-seine boat Sania Manjushri sank. After a while, a gillnet boat called Syed Madani sank and the crew were rescued.
