Photographs by Rajesh Shetty, Team Mangalorean
Report by Team Mangalorean

Mangalore, January 24: The Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene in the first ever joint operation today raided a pub in Balmatta and beat up a group of youngsters who were allegeldy involved in some serious partying.

At the time of the attack there were 8 youths belonging to different colleges in the city and four of them were girls. The raiding group found them in a compromising situation and some of them were scarcely clad and were doing nothing short of "nanga Naach" accused Sri Rama Sene district convenor Sudhir. "We did not have any other option but to chase them out of the pub as they appear to have come from good families. When they did not budge they had to beat them out of the pub" he added.

The Police squad headed by the Bunder police sub inspector Umesh Shet visited the place and has recorded the events

Do we have laws to prevent children from drinking? We like to imitate the western culture, but there are series of laws which tries to safeguard the society against underage drinking, entry to pub/bar, laws against drunk driving etc
Let us look at science. This is not from any sena but the US Surgeon . Please visit:
FOREWORD FROM THE ACTING SURGEON GENERAL U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES Alcohol is the most widely used substance of abuse among America’s youth. A higher percentage of young people between the ages of 12 and 20 use alcohol than use tobacco or illicit drugs. The physical consequences of underage alcohol use range from medical problems to death by alcohol poisoning, and alcohol plays a significant role in risky sexual behavior, physical and sexual assaults, various types of injuries, and suicide. Underage drinking also creates secondhand effects for others, drinkers and nondrinkers alike, including car crashes from drunk driving, that put every child at risk. Underage alcohol consumption is a major societal problem with enormous health and safety consequences and will demand the Nation’s attention and committed efforts to solve.
For the most part, parents and other adults underestimate the number of adolescents who use alcohol. They underestimate how early drinking begins, the amount of alcohol adolescents consume, the many risks that alcohol consumption creates for adolescents, and the nature and extent of the consequences to both drinkers and nondrinkers. Too often, parents are inclined to believe, “Not my child.” Yet, by age 15, approximately one half of America’s boys and girls have had a whole drink of alcohol, not just a few sips, and the highest prevalence of alcohol dependence in any age group is among people ages 18 to 20.
I have issued this Surgeon General’s Call to Action To Prevent

Sri Rama Never lied. Look at the photographs these were taken when they began beating. All the girls are sitting. No nanga nach. No pitchers or beer mugs on girl's table!

It goes beyond doubt that Ravan formed a sene and gor it trained by Taliban to discredit Rama! Jai Shri Ram but dikkhara Rama Sene!

Thanks For SriRam Sena
Jai Sriram.

The 24x7 channels have been repeatedly telecasting the ‘Mangalore-pub’ incident for more than 48 hours.

The clippings show a group of men from an outfit called Sri Rama Sena pushing a few girls out of the pub for drinking alcohol and ‘obscene dancing’.

They took law into their hands and manhandled the women present —— all under the guise of safeguarding ‘culture’. The pub is a licensed one and alcoholic drinks have been served during the permitted hours.

The women seem to be within the permitted age limit and they had all the rights to consume liquor in that private place. No one has the authority to prevent them from enjoying their privacy.

Even the authorised officials or police can charge them only when they violated any legal provisions So, the action of the men from Sri Rama Sena must be condemned in the strongest of terms.

This is similar to the hooliganism showed by the Shiv Sena men in Mumbai on a Valentines Day a few years back.

This ‘culture’ of attacking private and public places, assaulting women and co-citizens of other States do not have a place in Hinduism and people must understand that there is absolutely nothing ‘Hindu’ with these ‘senas’.

It is disgusting that these ruffians operate in the name of Rama and Shiva causing disrepute to genuine Hindu organisations. It is good that the BJP/VHP/RSS have condemned the incident and distanced themselves from this outfit and it is also good on the part of the Karnataka government to immediately bring the culprits to book.

As the isolated incident has been blown out of proportion by the ‘secular’ media, which always waits for such opportunities, a deep analysis would bring out the fact that there is more to such ‘enacted’ incidents.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened, but every time some of the electronic media men are present to shoot the entire incident as they have had prior information.

And not once had the media exhibited the responsibility and care to inform the police, so that the incidents could be averted and the victims saved.

People need not be surprised at the ‘alacrity’ of TV crews in visiting such crime spots on time, as they seem to be ‘hand-in-glove’ with the perpetrators as alleged by the Mangalore SP Satheesh Kumar in this case too.

Expectedly, the media’s hype has created a mild political stir, as the incident had happened in a BJP ruled state. The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, who has never ever uttered a word on the continuing rapes and pedophile crimes in UPA -ruled states, has got agitated and warned the Karnataka government.

She had said that she would petition the Election Commission to de-recognise the political party, which has sponsored the Sri Rama Sena.

But how many times had she petitioned the EC against the Delhi government for continuing rapes in the capital? Very recently an MBA student was gang raped in Noida and a woman journalist was murdered in Delhi.

Why was Renuka silent then? Where was she when a Hindu student Sukanya was raped and murdered allegedly in a Christian School in Omalur, Tamilnadu two years back?

The incident brought to light the previous rape and murders of a dozen students there and the centre was keeping quiet then! Why didn’t Renuka petition the EC against the DMK government?

The channels even have the temerity to use the word ‘Hindu Talibans’! How can the media ‘communalise’ an isolated incident perpetrated by fringe elements?
Patrick D'Souza, India Jan 29, 2009
Be it any Sena, Dal or an individual thug. Let us first accept whether there is a Goverment. Yes, there is one at the State and the other at Centre. What is their governance doing? Why is there so much insecurity around despite law & order machinery in place. WHERE IS THE RULE OF LAW? Should a DC or SP respond and act only after the CM orders to do so rather than answer to the call of duty which is under an oath! You readers please put questions to yourselves and come out next time wiser when you caste your vote. Politics included, all these incidents are a trailer of a larger carnage in the offing of the magnitude of the Gujarat meyham.

Ban Ramsena. That's it period.
Most of these gondas are good for nothing jokers. Neither are these guys educated nor from decent families. The best punishment for the ram sena activist is chop off their hands. Any one daring to hit women deserve to spend rest of their useless lives without limbs.

Most of the so called Sene boys that attacked the PUB are school drop outs or who never attended school. Who has taught them morality and ethics if they have not been to school where a child learns the little that is taught if at all. The parents do not know where their children are and what they do because in their childhood they did exactly the same may not be at this scale, like stealing, pelting stones at mango trees, stealing coconuts, fruits and property of neighbours and selling and making a living "Taporigiri". Now it is the mentors are the Rulers so they affiliate themselves with the Ruling party and being allied to are into a new form of extorsion that is well organised in Bigger cities in India "Hafta" Protection money? If not paid Hafta - the protection money they will destroy the property... This is exactly what happened to the Pub it is alleged... And when they saw the youngsters in the Pubs having some cool time they thought it was their additional responsibility to protect the society and trained their hands on the girls.

One has to ask who needs to be disciplined? The Goons who collect HAFTA and destroy the property of the defiant who do not want to be a part of this protection and destruction or the people who visit pubs, malls, businesses and public places??
It is little clear that the fault lies with the power politics. Like Shiv Sena we have Rama Sena extorting money and creating trouble in society and making the business community and common man uncomfortable walking on the streets....

Catch them, and teach them what they do is not just acceptable in a civilised society where real people with real problems of survival and progress live as one society.

Hard working Man/woman has no time for policing society as a special task or as a part time / full time Job. Those that do do not do anything else. They live with Hafta and stealing. That is their way of life.

Did we expect Mangalore would be a part of Hafta Business and the menace of Hooliganism and Goondagiri?? Thanks to the Ruling party and Local alliance. It always better to have a national party ruling states but the problem here is local issues like growth of the regions are neglected. But at least we would not have Extorsion business Booming with Government backing.. with such parties in power who need local goons supporting them...

Bajrangdal and Ram Sena has no other claims, except to say this word; Girls were doing a Nanga nach.

What a shame to India, This Ram Sena and Bajarnagadal has putting this Girls in shame, for there own release nothing else.
Culprit governaments culprits thought has made the Girls at risk.

Even they(the Girls) did it also, these people has nothing to do. This people they themselves drunkers, and all there faces symbalises them in there original symbols.

These people has been charged more offences than what actuly they Got. By wrongly describing the Girls and there freedom and there oppeness.

Even there father and mother never hit them like this, Who are these Goondas and hooligans to take others childrens.

"Practice what you preach and let others follow you". This was what Lord Rama did, the name SRS subscribes to.

I am a Hindu and there were occasions I did look up to the offshoots of the Sangh, but not anymore. It makes me feel ashamed of my looking up to them before. Going by what they say, we should perhaps ban our holy books too, since they contain Apsaras dancing in front of Indra. These are non-ambitious, good for nothing people, with plenty of time on hand. They have no idea of culture nor awareness of our history.

very shameful, all this happened because of media.

- The news channels were already there. The want for exclusive coverage of this dastardly act, leads them to not inform the cops? Whatever happened to ethics?

-They (the 'brainless' moron group) claim to be guardians of Indian culture! We all know how elections are! People are coerced by alcohol, sleaze and money (well for the most part, and oh lets not forget about 'vote bank' politics! One of the root causes of todays communal tensions!)

-Should a group of people barge in inside politicians houses and hit them saying that they are behaving in a way that is 'un-indian'?? These same goons in all probability, might have congregated in some bar after doing their days work!

I love Mangalore! And its a shame these perpetrators are going about these acts with impunity!
Shaila, India Jan 27, 2009
In picture 6, I could see a fat whitish guy Shrinath who was my college mate. I know how good he is in girl’s case. On which basis he is going to pub and hitting those innocent girls? When you are not following the tradition and culture given by Lord Rama how you can punish others? I know this guy is spoiling all the girls and you will get his full bad bio-data if you enquire anyone in Bantwal. It should be a shame for you Shrinath if you read this. Also this may be same for most of the guys who has done this.
Priya, India Jan 27, 2009
Mangalore is getting publicity for the wrong reasons. First the attack on Christians and now the attack on girls. It is disgraceful.

The "parties" involved should be banned. No sane Indian would support such acts. We don't need moral police. If we are interested in morals, please also remember that smoking, drinking, eating gutka and a zillion other things can be termed immoral.

Such parties bring undesired tension in the nation. We have enough worries in the one life we live..work, health etc..we don't need more problems! Life would be much easier if we all lived in peace!

India is a great nation because of its diversity and "FREEDOM". Lets keep it that way.
Rachel Dsouza, UAE Jan 27, 2009
Sri Rama Sene district convenor Sudhir who is he to correct the young generation. Looking at the pictures I don't see any one of them were scarcely clad and were doing nothing short of A "nanga Naach" as preditict by Ramsene, may be he just wants public attention to come in the limelight and get some publicity.
On the contary I feel he wanted to do something untowards the young girls and wanted them to do a "Nanga Nanch for himself with them" the vulgar minds of these so called social activities of Ramsene.
Lohit, USA Jan 26, 2009
Mr Ethan,

What is your real name. Can we know your real identity, what is you address in the US ?

If you live in the US like I do, you know what is a nation of laws, right.

Can you tell me what law did the girls or boys in that pub violate.

Who are the violators here, the revelers in the pub or the goons who manhandled them and are trying to oppress the freedom they have.

In a land of laws no one has the right to morally police another. No One. Those girls and boys may be only answerable to their parents and no one else.

I would like to know in which part of the US you live, where you get such ideas of freedom that you find a bone of justification for goons.

The next time you sip a beer with your wife, how you would like being dragged out of the pub by some uncouth who thinks you have violated his moral standard.

Come on man, this is a no brainier.

Dear mangalorean please do me a favor after reading the post please call the local politicans, please don't sit in active. We need to hold politicians accountable for law and order

Managlore a new Hindu Taliban base?

Growing up in Mangalore, I woke every morning to the Bhajans of a local temple, Adaan of the mosque and church bells for the early morning prayers. Today when I go back home vacation I still hear them, but they seem so much louder. Seemingly everyone is trying to assert his/her religion on someone else.

When did Mangalore turn into a Hindu Taliban strong hold?

When I was young I did see RSS members conducting their Dwaja vandana early in the morning, You could recognize then easily by the kaki Shorts. They seemed to be harmless people just being patriotic.
This all changed when Mr. LK Advani decided to stir up the hornet’s nest by destroying a disputed structure in Ayodhya. He did this to win the votes of majority Hindu population. The action succeeded and his party became the largest opposition party and also came to power in 1994.

BJP in Karnataka:

Since BJP came to power in recent elections the Sangh Parivar outfits namely bajrang Dhal, RSS and Shri Ram sena have found a new strength. They feel that they have a safe haven since their government in power. The attacks against Muslims are nothing new to Mangalore; they have been attacked on the pretext of being traitors for the longest time since independence.

Last September Mangalore saw the first ever attacks on Christian places of worship probably in two hundred years, crosses destroyed, Nuns attacked and the leader of Bajrang Dal came put in public and took responsibility for the attacks. This reminded me of the destruction of Bamiyan Buddha statues by the Taliban. Is bajrangdal any different from the Islamic lunatics in this regard? In a civilized society Mahendra Kumar would have been tried to the fullest extent of the law. But the BJP government has done a little bit of an eye wash, fired Mahendra Kumar from his position and called it a day.

The attacks on young girls, two days ago at a local pub called “Amnesia” are the result of the governments in action and apathy to the previous crimes committed by the Sangh Parivar. As long as BJP shuts up and takes no action, theses atrocities will continue. A civilized human being would not beat up, molest girls with full coverage of media. How are these people different from Taliban. Taliban banned all music, movies and dance, they took women to the foot ball stadium built by the international community and shot them in the head while they were still in their Burkhas. If the Manalorean public keeps quiet and the BJP government does not take action, the days are not far away when we might see public stoning of men and women at Nehru Maidan..

The major bone of contention for these groups to attack young people, was young girls and boys in compromised position; if you don’t find girls and boys in compromised position who else do you find?. You are against gays any way. Do you think young people would stop having sex just because you beat them up? The past generation has become the victim of HIV, AIDS due to ignorance and hypocrisy, we should not let the future generation o become victims of this deadly disease. It would be a good idea to conduct sex education classes on, abstinence, use of condoms and even distribution of condoms so that they can have safe sex.
And you Ram sena activists you are no better than the rapists, it is clearly visible from the horrible footage of the attacks. A girl was being hit constantly in the face while she is sitting in a chair; you pushed girls on the floor as they tried to run away and tried to feel their body parts as they were escaping from your clutches. Your tactics are no better than the terrorists of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan, you keep changing your names every time you get in trouble. You have systematical talibanised mangalorean society, attacks on Muslims, Christians, news papers are some of the hall marks of your Goondaism . Its time for some introspection and utilize your resources towards to good of the society.

Mangaloreans Its time to wake up, Do everything you can to get rid of these anti social elements of Mangalore, Lawyers file a public interest litigation, NRI ‘s Please write to the NRI Minister, Call your MP, MLA and MLC and let them know how you feel about the incident. If you happen to meet a Ram sena activists tell them their days are numbered. Students; you have all the time in the world for unnecessary rallies, this is about you and your freedom. Please carry out a protest and block, already clogged Mangalorean roads, so that the district in charge minster Shri Krishna Palemar tells his boss about the situation in Mangalore.

As far as the Manglorean Police is concerned, they seems more helpless than the citizens, as long as mangalore does not get an officer with the guts to fight the saffron menace, we need to keep our hopes on elected officials. The culprits should be booked under the new anti terror law as the recent incident amounts to domestic terror.
We need a peaceful Mangalore and not and not a saffornised Mangalore with the moral police telling us what to do.

Mr. Ethan not little a lot of confusion indeed. I really do not know what U r trying to say. There was an instance in Mumbai-Pune Pub raid by Maharashtra Police where there was some sort of illegal activity and stuf being used and consumed... surely it is the Law working in the state. But here in Karnataka Police are inactive... Bajarang Dal, Rama sene, doing the work of Police...? Or are they part of the Law enforcement Agencies of the Karnataka - BJP Government?? I can not Karnataka because it is a state and today it is ruled by BJP and hope will be by other party tomorrow... It surely looks like a feature of the BJP Rule... Economic development, Social scrutiny/Moral Policing, cleansing the society of evil and western influence is the BJP-B.Dal-xyz sene type of Rule...?
The point here is... it is the duty of the Law enforcement agencies to ensure Order in the Public places..... Is Bajarang Dal-Sene the security department of the BJP Government? Who voted the BJP to power ? why are they not functiong in the state? why has the state been neglected in security to women and children? Are our women and children safe in public places like Pubs, shopping malls, colleges, schools, markets, temples, churches, mosques, party halls and all those places where people gather.. ? Are the Police manning these places?? Is the BJP out of power in the state alredy? Does the Media have to come strongly down on the administration? Does the International community express opinion ? Does the central government and opposition raise voice and only then the BJP try and think of taking action??
Total misguided young unemployed sena men fed and nurtured by the same fundamental Talibanistic Ideology and nothing else...
Catch them and unwind them, teach them some trade or make them work on the fields and carry soil and do some manual work. Let them earn their daily wages and they will have no time for moral policing and in tern they will educate their children the right path and keep them from going the way these so called pub goers. If you are employed and busy and tired at the end of the day earning your daily wages the only thing you will think of is to guide yourself and your dear family to ways that do not waste the wage that you have earned....
Educate and employ these Sene guys and do not pay them party coffers and do ot fund them from sangh parivaar funds...
Maria, UAE Jan 26, 2009
I don't think the Bajarang Dal & Rama Sena have any right to lay their hands on anyone, except on their family. How dare they touch these girls? If they felt that the girls were misbehaving, they could have brought it to the notice of the concerned authorities. Don't they have a mouth? Are they our fathers, brothers or uncles?

Before trying to discipline others, discipline yourselves! It is because of people like you that the name of our peace loving state is getting ruined. It is because of people like you, people like me (a nri) is getting scared to come. I come to Mangalore every year for a holiday but this year, i should think twice!

I am just like one of those girls. How can I feel safe in my own state with a bunch of people like you roaming around?

Indian Government... ITS TIME YOU WAKE UP!!!

This is the right time to take serious action against BAJARANGA DAL & RAMA SENA. They are not hesitate to kill even innocent people. Sangha Parivar playing a key roll in criminal activities all over India. This is a National shame.
By the Name of Hindutwa R.S.S people beating hindu girls & boys.
Ban R.S.S to SAVE INDIA. WE need pieceful environment in India.
This incident clearly shows that now a days R.S.S becomes weaker & weaker.

If government cannot and will not control violence, then about time you do a tit for tat. This is how the Israelis straightened out their violent muslim radical neighbors and this is how these goons need to be fixed.

Like Chidambaram said, non-violence is not an answer to taliban kind of incidents happening around India and the world. India may well become the next Pakistan with these kind of incidents happening with regularity.

Rama Sena means the soldiers of Lord Rama if I am not mistaken. Lord Rama do not like this type of behavior from his Sena. These people are not to be called Rama Sena. They are gundas and rawdies. They have done criminal acts in the name of Lord Rama. Punish them. If posible, apply the Saudi Arabian Law on these rawdies and criminals.

It is quite disheartening to know the developments taking place in Mangalore in the name of religion. How we can pass comments on Taliban when we witness the excesses in our own soceity by these handful cowards?. Being a Hindu girl I am really ashamed! Have you seen the faces of these cowards? They look quite uneducated and uncultured. Their women are not safe in their hands. Is it right to beat weak women and enjoy? These Bajrangi's and Ram seni's are so weak and cowards as they could not stay as individual and fight against the brave! They need the support of rowdies to back them as they are really scared stand alone and fight. They are really disgrace to our great soceity.
Police! beware .. please remember an eye for an eye.. only ends up making the whole world blind!!!. If you dont take stern action against these shameless rogs now.. thae one day somebody will come forward and eliminate these rogs from Indian map.

As per Indian Law its telling that if any one who is doing crime is criminal and who are supporting this also the criminal.

So i wana ask people who r supporting in favor with girls if any other incident like (rape /murder) happend after their party who is resposible.
So before blaming anyone just think abt youerself with the incident that happend.

Oh God Save this people from Western Culture.

Still there is time for India we need big change in our policy & government.

I hope India realises that this is how bad our police are that they have no control over situations or people belonging to political parties. It is because of this that the rest of the world thinks we are all just a bunch or corrupt people which includes the government and the police.
If someone had to beat up women from their families how would they feel about it??..
These are people who have no respect for women because they are uncivilised and it is these people that are giving our country a bad name.
Ethan, USA Jan 26, 2009
Robert/Nancy/Rajesh If you scroll down below you can see my first comment which clearly admonishes such acts and how we should over come it, when we point finger at others there are few pointing at us too, so take this issue seriously as we all need a safe place to live in.

Introspect the "FREEDOM" what we call is true if they are within the boundary of Law and Order of the country which also leads to Moral or Civil responsibility.

For example I would prefer to drive on the wrong side of the road telling every one who are you to stop me as I have freedom, but is it acceptable by law in any part of the world tell me, I am abreast with all the going on in the world, If you are not capable of seeing both side of the coin, then you are the losers, there is no alternative for Truth which shall always prevail above all.

When we do hurt others in any form, we are giving them a written permission to hurt us too.

So let us see the Positive out come of this whole incident, If every one tries to be a law to himself it would just erode into another Palestine, and always have to blame others for our short comings, By standing for actual truth we can build a better India and that will cascade to a better life to all who live in this nation.

Certainly you feel that who are these guys to ask her while you are alive... Please be aware that there are laws and concerned authorities to control this and not by the BD or SRS.

Dear Mr. Wilfred Saudi Arabia.

Even Ravana Sene also not a suitable name for them because if you study Ramayan you will find Ravan is a best person. Even though he kidnapped Sitadevi he did not spoil her but kept in safe. Better call them TERROR SENA.

Its a natinonal shame. The fundamentalists groups like Bhajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene disturb the peace in Mangalore. They are supported by Sangh Parivar.

Who has authorisd Bhajrang dal and Srirama Sene criminal goondas to be moral police?

Let them control and protect their own mothers, sisters and wives. If they are so patriotic, let them go to Kashmir, Indo-Pak border and fight with terrorists instead of showing their heroism with girls and women. Its the right time that all students come out and protest against Bhajrang dal and
Srirama Sene hooligans and criminals.

This is the tip of the iceberg!

All these years, the south was free from these self proclaimed fanatics, or moral police as they call themselves. Be it BJP, VHP, Shiv Sena, MNS, Bajrang Dal or umpteem other dals.... the saffron xenophobia has invaded Karnatak/Mangalore... and I dont see any freedom from their clutches.

So much for bringing this party to power.
Lakshman, India Jan 26, 2009
Where is the impartial BJP now. BJP needs to introspect as to what kind of a mafia they have raised in these sene's.

Media has pictures of these folks, but where are the police?

Have they caught even a single person who attacked vans plying beef or attacked churches till now. NO Nothing.

All of this is a joke. This is not about Hinduism, Islam or Christianity. We Hindus Christians and Muslims have lived happily in Mangalore as one family for generations.

Our country has become a corrupt, jungle raj and it is for all to see.

I am very much sorry to see this incident which has happened in our civilised society. Why did they take the law into their own hand, instead if they have problem they could have asked the help from the law enforcement agency, we have got a lot of lady police officers in our police department. The way in which they have behaved with the women that made me frustrated. Recently the Ram Sena leader said muslims are enjoying with hindu girls. If one or two muslims involved in any incident he cannot brand entire muslim population for that, likewise we cannot blame all hindus for the misdeed of one or two. This is crazy. How long this is going to go. Like this kind of blame game must be stopped for the sake of the welfare of our society.

Enough speeches and accusations. The quesion for citizens:

Who do you think will successfully ensure that justice in the end?
a) CM Yediyurappa / VS Acharya ?
b) Womens / human rights organizations ?
c) Media ?
d) IG / SP / DSP
e) Bar owners
f) Victims Families
g) All College Students Union

Personally I think it is the Students Union that will is the most noteworthy, peaceful and visible power today. Are they really capable of doing this and ensuring justice?

Fellow citizens, please comment and encourage them.

And U Prash UR daughter is doing a Nanga Naach you need your neighbours to discipline her? Shame on you guys who have different yard sticks for measuring each other....
This is no time and age for policing others but self. If I am good I think and feel the world arround me is good. The world looks yellow to a jaundiced eye. (Arasinakutta is a yellow sickness and nothing looks clear for the sick) Yellow and Safron / Orange are a same root sicknesses and mangalore in particular, Karnataka in as a whole and India in parts is catching this Yellow/Safron sickness with different names of Gods - sene, warriors for destruction of the fibre of the society in the name of policing which is very much needed on their characters...

Dear Prash,
Did u see the pictures and the footage? Do the girls in anyway look indecently dressed? look again! they are in smart casuals and maximum exposure is their hands in sleevless tops!we must realize that we are celebrating the 60th year of independance! Live and let live must be the mantra! and what about when all these goondas used to go to dance bars and watch the women dance there!? thats nanga naach. Firstly the rama sene needs education. Uneducated leaders can only be capable of such narrow minded thinking.

Frankly I wasnt able to understand even a word of the statement (made in english on national TV), the Shiva Rama Sene spokesperson made today.

Is this whom they call their leader?

Mr. Prash, India can u please tell me who has given the permission to rama sene (the scoundral monkeys) to thrash women. These people are so impotent that they can only beat up women and nuns, if u have the guts go and show ur courage in the kashmir border. It is none of our business to see whose sister or mother is dancing with whom. If your sister is dancing then you can decipline her, you have no right to take law in your own hands. why the hell police r there for.

What is "Nanga Nach"? I never heard that word before. I did hear about the "Bethale Seve" - a procession to the temple by naked girls to please Gods which was usually held in northern part of Karnataka. That was the part of Indian culture, but not the Nanga Nach whatever it is. I think the Nanga Nach does not please "Gods" enough and that is why it is considered western! Am I hypocritic?

Chethana, India Jan 26, 2009
Prash, India...perhaps if you have watched the video footage it would appear that these girls in NO WAY were doing any "NANGA NAACH". Just because the leader of Ram Sena / Bajrang Dal comes out and gives a fake statement in order to justify his acts.. it certainly does'nt mean that it is the truth.

This club is a decent place and not a hang out where cheap charactered ladies or men hang out. I think before being an advocate of these GOONDAS you must get your facts right and NOT JUST BELIEVE IN ANY SPOKESPERSON OF SUCH A ROWDY OUTFIT.

Now what if YOU and your family members visit a resturant and this restaturant and the people in it were attacked by Mr. X or Mr. Y ..and then these people say that YOU and your family members were doing some thing indecent in the restaurant????
Nelson Lewis, Bahrain Jan 25, 2009
It appears that hooliganisms and vandalisms were jointly conducted by Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene in a pub in Mangalore. Since the BJP Government has come to power, acts of hooliganism are on the rise and going on at a regular scale.

I wonder if the State Government is capable of controlling the situation, because these elements are linked to it and these activities are carried out with their blessings.

It is high time that this State is brought under President's rule or else we may have another Gujarat-type situation and in Yeddyurappa we will have another Frankenstein in the making.

Hai Samarthan,
thank u for comments,
i am clarifying that my comments is only pointing the personal rights. india is diversified country that's why anybody can do anything without disturbing to others. For eg: one lady want to dance in pub it's ok, and by the same time one lady wants to wear the burkha it's also ok. because that is personal choice. otherwise what is the meaning of freedom.

anybody have no right to ask why u r dancing, or wear the burkha, to adults.(I AM FAVOUR TO SUCH RULES) Who r B.dal to ask this.

Talibanism of India is a dangerious trend,if not checked and stopped at the bud, India will turn like another Afganistan.

It is the duty of the police and court of law to keep the law and order; not the street hooligans. When these hooligans were running rampant to attack the minority religious followers, they were backed by
the political parties, but now they are
going to run rampage in any place they choose to enter!

Any group self acclaimed as moral police have no right to intrude into private life of anyone who has attained majority, or physically handle them.

This is certainly an act of prejudice/personal grudge.

It is surprising to see that the media was informed well in advance, whereas the Police were informed much after the smoke went down!

The act of man handling girls should be condemned by one and all. Parents should take note how 'WELL' their children study these days, and try to control them so that these self acclaimed moral Police go jobless!

It is interesting to note that while they suppsedly oppose 'obscenity', the very same people have no problems in molesting these women! it shows a depraved mind, but it isn't the first time we're seeing this from the BD / Rama Sene. Even more intersting is the fact that while both BD and the Rama sene have accepted responsibility, the administration is laying the blame solely on the latter, allowing the BD to go scot free as usual. After all, big brother BJP won't want negative publicity at this stage.
Ramdas, UAE Jan 25, 2009
Sadly, Mangalore keeps coming in the news for the wrong reasons.
I don't care whether the girls were right or wrong in being there, no one had the right to touch them. People cannot take law into their hands. What is annoying is that all this was well orchestrated with media invited to ensure that publicity was not missed. It is important that righteous people witnessing acts of hooliganism do not become mere spectators but collectively prevent these rowdy elements taking charge of the city.
I hope the guilty are punished, but don't see this happening. Very sad.
adarsh, India Jan 25, 2009
This was a mistake by the Ram Sena. Maybe they had a wrong tip-off from their men.

But a few such Pubs/dance-bars do have hidden brothels in them which cannot be denied. As one of the above commenter said - "Paisa Bolta Hai. Paisa Karta hai.". This applies to the owners of BARS & PUBS as well.

They shouldn't be allowed to become a cesspool for criminal activities.

Although I condemn this incident, I strongly feel there is a need to monitor such places by the local police (& not by general public) to deter drug abuses & to save the soul of innocent girls who are thrown into such hidden dance-bars/brothels operating usually after midnight.

This incident highlights the incapability of the POLICE to avoid such incidents by -
a. regular monitoring of local pubs/ dance-bars
b. stop public from taking action against innocent bar-goers.

I think this is a serious issue in which nation wide debates are to be conducted. This is a sort of cultural policing that these criminals are conducting in Karnataka. The dramas in the name of Rama and Hanuman are to be stopped. There must be a cultural initiative to check these criminals. I don't think this is an issue of just unemployed youths. The politics latent in this drama is to be analyzed. The cultural policing on the part of Sangh Parivar forces actually aim at curtailing the freedom of women. The free mobility and right to enjoy the life as they wish are targeted here. Once the authorities have issued license for the pubs, they are social institutions. Those are to be considered as a gender neutral space. Men and woman must have equal access to those institution and if anything anti social is going on there, it is the duty of the state to look into the matter. The hooligans who charged with the iconic idioms of monkeys and archaic personalities must not police the culture and society. I do not wonder the activities the sangh parivar forces committed. They are trying to build up a ramarajya. That Ramarajya will be the graveyard of all free spirits which our female counterparts have acquired through the historical processes. The actions on the part of the sangh parivar Hooligans are an indicator. The regime they dream will kill every Tadaka, rape every Mandodari, throw every Sita to firepit, and make every Tara a widow. In the name of Pativratya and Patriarchal Family they will even sell women in open markets as Harischandra did. Friends, this is a cultural problem and a context in which culture has to be analyzed and confronted. Let the women in Indian society live their life. Let us act to single out these Sangh Parivar hooligans. The cultural context demands such an action.

Well fellow mangaloreans...no point requesting the state government or home minister to look into this matter..because these hooligans have the blessings of the home minister.... and the Police force is an incompetent force...its better to disband them....we the educated and sensible people of Mangalore should have thought of the consequences before voting for a Right wing political party in the last state elections.Such political parties and their goonda outfits can attack property and women who belong to their OWN community.

What hurts me the most is that these "GOONDAS" use the holy name of Lord Sri RAM and Lord Sri Hanuman and carry out such dastardly attacks on women and property....lets not forget .... women here were MOLESTED!!!!! We must condemn this and should vote OUT this party in the coming general elections...otherwise as pointed out by Mr. Nitesh, UAE... our wives and daughters will not be able to step out alone.

I know the person who was in the pub.

Like I always kept saying, India is going back to the Stone Age soon. With Talibanism on the rise.

As for Ethan from the USA - just because there was sun in the pictures does not make it mid-afternoon. How did you assume that it was in the time that drinks are not to be served? And how did you assume that people who drink will definitely drive? Please stop making statements based on assumptions. You weren't in that pub.

I hope they arrest all the moral police who entered the place and put them in jail for life. I have major problems with the way you people drink in local bars. Do you see me coming and kick you out of there?? Live your life and let us live ours.

I cannot even tell you all the vulgarities they used in the pub. They called the women dirty names that I cannot even say here. All because they were sitting there having a good time? And who said they were having alcohol? MOCKTAILS do NOT have alcohol in them. Just because they are served and look the same as cocktails does not automatically make them alcoholic drinks.

Mangalorian women will have to wear burkas and the men long shirts and loose pants to appease the goons of Rama Sene Bajrang Dal/BJP.
So much for independence and secular views. If you have a problem go to the authorities, if they do not take action agitate against them. If these people are not breaking the law and are are adults then goons have no right to bring talibanism to Mangalorians.

It is really shocking to learn that this is happening in a 100% literate district of Mangalore. First thing first. In a democracy, no one has a right to take the law into his own hand. If those "goons" think that they were helping a particular political party, they are foolish. People are far more mature and would like to move on to the 21st century and not go back to the stone age.
Alfred J. Rebello, UAE Jan 25, 2009
This is not something new. Bajrang Dal & Rama sene always do something under desperation just to get noticed. Whenever public forgotten them, they come out with some mischief.

However, in this case, I reserve my comments because what they did was to stop some young people going in the wrong direction. These young generation should be told what is moral and what is not. But these outfits should not have taken law in their hands. They should have called police when these young people refused to budge. No outfit has the right to take law in their hands. If they do, then their motto is something else.

Dear K Italia
You should come out of your dirty 'den ' to know few more things about gulf. There is much more freedom in gulf states to pratice our religion except KSA. The KSA is only exception because it is ruled by religious fanatics similar to the people who have been involved in these kinds of incidents.

The police/govt in the gulf does not interfere in personal lives of its citizens unless the activity is illegal. Here to the role of citizens is to inform the police/govt of illegal activities but not to take any action. There are laws/procedures to pronouce some one a culprit till that time he is just a accused.

Shame on you, what you would have told 'If you were with your wife in the same bar enjoying a drink'. Would you allow your 'friends' from Sri Rama Sene or any other group to molest/touch/beat your wife?

Why is it that these people who criticise are not bothered about the lakhs of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who have driven out fellow indians from parts of our country which is a form of Demographic & Cultural invasion. Agree with Mr. Shenoy. These perpetrators seem to have an inferiority complex against people and girls who lead a life style thats different from theirs....People who are economically backward and narrow minded seem to become the arms & legs of right wing organizations such as BD & SRS.

Where are the Centre wing Student unions?? and why is'nt the women rights organization doing anything about this???"?...I watched the footage ...and its pathetic to see girls being punched, thrown on the ground and beaten.

The law & Order sitution in the district is going out of control.. and its not advisable to let your spouse, mother sister or grown up daughter go out alone in the city.

Hi. Is it any surprise that the Taliban and Bajrang Dal/Ram Sene etc have so much in common? These cowards can only do such things as attacking innocent people and attacking women who like to express their freedom. But I'm sure these pussies can't do anything constructive than sit and complain about Western culture's influence over India while they have no qualms watching porn or doing similar things. Is it Hindu culture to attack women? These people are a disgrace to all right thinking Hindus. These people need to be guided in the right direction, looks like most of them are losers who have been brainwashed by older thugs who were losers themselves, who had nothing productive to do so started hating everything that looked alien to them. The biggest failure is one on the part of the Karnataka Government which is hand-in-glove with these hooligans and shamelessly encourage them. I as a citizen of India and Karnataka is deeply ashamed of what my country men have done to some innocent people who were exercising their freedom.

Hi Everybody, my comments do not usually gets published, anyway I think I have to voice my opinion too. What was time when the Pub was attacked in my knowledge it looks to be mid afternoon, How was the lounge serving drinks during these hours isn't there any kind of law that stipulates the time? after drinking if they drive and kill or injure some one or if they themselves get injured who is to be blamed. In my opinion most of us do not realize the responsibility that comes with freedom, Yes we are the largest democratic country in the world but sorry to say we are abusing the freedom that we have earned, all problems has solution, and there could have been different motivation for these kind of attacks which is done under different banners.

To Systematically eradicate unruly persons or organization, A local civic body (under no banner acting independently) which has the right to question the authority of government ( federal & State) / organizations (Even NGO's)/institution/ local authority/ police/RTA/Excise ......Etc should be established consisting of different religions and respected personalities, but of Mangalore Origin to combat any kind of such future atrocities and refer any such findings to concerned department highest authority and copy it to State and Union home departments, When all the people of Mangalore take pride in the culture we have adopted should not be let go just because some one wants to by pass the law (Here RS, BD and the owner of the Amnesia Lounge) as we all have an moral responsibility and obligation to fulfill.

Nitesh, UAE Jan 25, 2009
"nanga naach"..this is ridiculous!!! the pictures speak a thousand words...These girls are dressed in a western outfit...Whats wrong in that??? They surely dont appear nude to me. Mr. Sudhir of the Bajgarng Gang should perhaps consult an opthamologist and his gang members should be kept in prison.

I would like to appreciate the initiative taken up by Mr. PUTTUR DINESH of launching an campaign against these State backed hooligans. We need more MEN like these who dare to stand up and raise a voice against these "GOONDAS". If the people of Mumbai can why can't we Mangaloreans???

Its high time we send these animals back to their cage.
Vinod Kulsheker, UAE, UAE Jan 25, 2009
I think karnataka pepole made a big mistake choosing BJP govt!!!! And now days who is rulling mangalore and udupi? BJP govt or These Goondas !!! And requesting to Mr CM also Home Minister pleas put in ur resignation.
Shafi Imran Katipalla, UAE Jan 25, 2009
Dear Anna,

I just expressed my thoughts for Mr. Samarthan’s comment. I do agree with you, miscreants took law into their hands. Action has to be taken against such Goondas.
Anne, India Jan 25, 2009
I think Karnataka Govt. should disband the police and handover the policing activities to Sri Rama Sene and Bajrang Dal. More over the Courts should be done away with and all their activities too should be handed over to Sri Ram Sene and Bajrang Dal. Mr. Sudhir can be made the Chief Justice cum IGP. The constitution too should be immidietly suspended and Mr. Sudhir can write his own book of rules.
Anybody of heard of TALIBAN ...
Puttur Dinesh, USA Jan 25, 2009
Dear NRI's in the gulf, US and Canada, if you guys don't mind please send me an e-mail at dinesh.puttur@yahoo.com, I need to gather a group of people for an email campaign.

We should all get together draft a letter and send it to the Home ministry, these people should be booked under the new terror law and their asses should rot in prison.

CM wants investment from abroad, he cannot even control his own thugs.
anna, India Jan 25, 2009
If the girls have chosen to wear anything its their wish..... ok? U cant comment on that!........ this incident is no where close to molestation...miscreants took law into their hands.... no man has the right to hit girls the way they did...... today it was them..... tomorrow it can be any one of us! Look at it that way...... please get a reality check done!
Shafi Imran katipalla, UAE Jan 25, 2009
Shri Samrthan,

Janab Abdul Azeez did not mentioned name of any community. He just said "people are free to enjoy their life independently, whether girls or boys".
Ladies wearing burka on their own wish, do you think wearing mini skirt is freedom for ladies? Such dresses are an indirect invitation to the opposite sex for teasing and molestation. Burka has been prescribed for the women so that they are recognized as modest women and this will also prevent them from being molested. Plz understand before commenting.
anna, India Jan 25, 2009
Heights of disgusting behavior!..... u call these attackers men??? Give them bangles to wear cos they cant fight with men thats why they chose women.......! Where is justice?? This clearly shows Mlore is no longer a safe place to live in..... the police force being so corrupt ,.......... its high time....... action has to be taken against such moral-less people.....!
Sadananda, Padubidiri, India Jan 25, 2009
It's indeed time to put up an "united protest" to the State Govt, similar to 26/11 by Mumbaikars. Also, it's high time to send an open letter to the state govt by Mangalorean.com. If we don't take the first step today, it would be extremely difficult in the comming days and weeks.

All the very best.
Ravi, India Jan 25, 2009
Police knows who they are. Even they arrest, in days State BJP government will order to release them.

Only solution who take law in thier hand should be shoot at sight.
Calvin, USA Jan 25, 2009
Amazing state of affairs. Even the CM can openly go around with another woman but not these youngsters. As you all said Taliban rule has been enforced in the state!!!

All publicity must be given to this heinous act and the puppet police must act against these goons and hoodlums.
Natasha, India Jan 25, 2009
All educated people are scared to go and fight against these goondas..... Why no PIL are there in courts? I hope public can go the right way through proper legal channels, use the videos and photographs in the media as evidence and book these RamaSene and BD workers forever in jail.
R.Pai, USA Jan 25, 2009
Everytime I see a mob hitting an individual in public, my hopes for a better India take hits too. No matter what the differences are, we SHOULD ALWAYS follow the rules.

In this case, they should have reported it to Police. It's very very dissappointing to see 'Taliban' culture spreading in our country.
mangalorecj, India Jan 25, 2009
I can only laugh at the comments of their convenor Sudhir. The intelligent man says "some of them were scarcely clad and were doing nothing short of "nanga Naach" ". Dear Sudhir, with all due respect to your intelligence i would just like to tell u to have a closer look at the pictures above. In no angle do the girls look scarcely dressed and i can give you a list of all your group members who used to sit in dance bars to watch the actual nanga naach. He he. Guys you need to change your convenor. Ha ha. And good job by Rakesh Shetty
Vincent, India Jan 25, 2009
The Pictures & Videos are there for everyone to see. The Police - if they really want to - can identity the attackers from these sources and take appropriate action. But will they do that - I can guess that this attack went on for quite some time and the police never came on the scene all this while inspite that this place is in the heart of the city.
Viju, India Jan 25, 2009
Dear CM, Thanks to the BJP. You have encouraged your brave soldiers to be even braver than the NSG commandos in mumbai. They have actually attacked these dangerous girls. We also salute your spirit of freedom, because you have given these helpless victims the freedom to run. We would also like to thank your spirit of democracy that even these lawless people enjoy complete freedom to voice their opinions and beat up whoever they decide does not follow their law.
I think you should now request them to proceed to the high court in Bangalore to beat up the lawyers and judges because recent news has it that they havent been practicing their religion.
Pradumnya, India Jan 25, 2009
These guys are following the shiv sena model of mumbai. However the shiv sena is controlled by bal thackeray while here the so called bajrang dal and rama sena seem to be mercenaries on hire. I wonder why they were silent two years ago when there were over 15 dance bars in mangalore where women from outside were actually exploited and trafficked. The Bajrangdal is already been used for landgrabbing (I am a victim) and soon they may also be collabrating with the underworld for extortion (or has it already started).
Manik, India Jan 25, 2009
Shame on our manglore police force they see everything and do nothing. These rama sene rowdies have made a hell for decent people in this town. I say throw them out of this town and send them where they belong thats behind bars. Why the public keeps quiet when they see this goondagiri they should beat them up then and there only then they will learn a lesson.
sunil, Central African Republic Jan 24, 2009
One remains to see how these hindu ruffians of Bajrang dal etc, will react when the state govt wants to ban "beef" in karnataka....obviously banning beef can never happen because of the huge amount of resources needed by the state exchequer (which the politicians have robbed anyway), but the "honorable" home minister's political statements can trigger these goondas to act and terrorise the people in the name of maintaining "law and order".
B H Hamza, Batrekere, India Jan 24, 2009
Well done Bajrangis and Hindu Sene. Congrats. Its not better to have unified name as "Talibaan" at this age of Globalization? Where Talibaans are well known for this kind of works?
Get united and work done. Wish you all the best.
Wjdsouza, India Jan 24, 2009
What is the difference betweeen Bajrang dal and Taliban. Both enforce their view on the public. The only difference is Bajrang dal is active in a democratic country. Does any one in the Government whether it is congress or BJP or CPM has enough will power to ban this group?
Puttur Dinesh, USA Jan 24, 2009
I saw the video footage of this attack. It does not look any better than Taliban treating their young women. A bunch of thugs hitting girls at a club. compromising position my foot, as long as they are of legal age let them have sex with any one they want who cares. I would even distribute condoms to young people to be safe.

The city police seems to be run by Eunachs.

When the locals fail to control these antisocial elements it is the job of NRIs to exert pressure on the government.

We need to start a campaign.
Lawrence Mascarenhas/USA, USA Jan 24, 2009
It is sad that Mangalore is becoming a lawless town. What is next? Raids on City buses where boys and girls are standing in a compromising position or beat up the women who are travelling sitting on the laps of men in Mangalore-Buntwal service cars or perhaps raids on movie threaters to see anyone is sitting in a compromising position!

Bajarang Dal and Ram Sene need a "Dasharath Sene" to teach them some sort of civic sense. Guys, beat up your own brothers and sisters, if you see them in the lounge and leave others alone.
Lokesh, India Jan 24, 2009
Oh Ok Smarthan, Abdul Aziz is an Indian. I hope you appreciate that.

If you are implying that he needs to check the religion of folks before he comments, then please say so clearly.

We should blame the cops and not the one who did it?
Vinay, India Jan 24, 2009
Whatever the illegality committed by the pub doesn't mean that Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene has any right to attack them. Even if the allegation by Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene s true, Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene are equally guilty of the deeds they did. An eye for an eye the world and the will be blind. By the way even the criminals in this country should have the right to defend. However in India we don't have any human rights. The only right it seems is that Hindu Fundamentalist can do anything and can get scot free.
Samarthan, USA Jan 24, 2009
Janab Abdul Azeez.
Appreciate you are talking about freedom for the girls. Inshalla you give a freedom to your community ladies to wear any costumes unlike wearing Burqa, then i would think your comment on Freedom for all will be justified. Im not not supporting the event below.. atleast our system has to be changed. We should blame the cops not the one who did it..
Abdul Azeez.K,, U.A.E, India Jan 24, 2009
This is a very nonsense work. because people are free to enjoy their life independently, weather girls or boys. recently in karnataka the law is ruling by some govt supported groups, actually this is unfortunate to the state. violence is the no solution for anyone. this type of behavior is calling "GOONDAISM"
Mike, USA Jan 24, 2009
BJP's jungle law has created this.
Austin Prabhu, USA Jan 24, 2009
Dear friends, don't get me wrong; I strongly feel that these Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sene groups should be banned in India. No matter what they say, they have no right to take law in their own hands. They should have immediately called the police if there was something wrong.
Calvin, USA Jan 24, 2009
Sri Ram sene and Bajrang Dal...bunch of jokers and goondas. No one can tell others what to do. There is freedom to all and all have a right to do what they want to do in their personal life.

Somehow I see the rise of fascism in this state.
ronald mumbai, India Jan 24, 2009
well good as we r the people who voted the BJP in to power who indrectly support these so called righteous people and i think the goverment can save a lot of money by closing the police dept, and give the BD the right to controll law and order and also we dont need the court atlest as long as the BJP goverment is there with the help of BD to decide who is guily or not
