Dubai June 8, 2009: Dhwani pratishthana has decided to present its prestigious "Dhwani- Sriranga" international Kannada theatre award 2009 to Mr. T. S. Nagabharna. The award is given in memory of founder of Kannada modern theatre late Shri Adya Rangacharya (Sriranga). Dhwani Pratishthana has been honoring eminent personalities in the field of Kannada drama & theatre with this award since last several years.
T.S.Nagabharana, early in his teens came under the indelible influence of the great playwright Adya Rangacharya. When in college he directed the plays Evam Indrajit and Shoka Chakra. He worked as a back stage worker, actor, singer and director. He had the opportunity of associating with leading theatre personalities like B.V.Karnath, Chandrashekar Kambar and Girish Karnad. Plays that Nagabharana has acted in and directed are - Sangya Balya, Kathale Belaku, Shakarana Sarotu, Jokumaraswamy, Oedipus, Sattavara Neralu, Krishna Parijata, Tingara Buddanna, Mundena Sakhi Mundena, Hayavadana, Neegikonda Samsa, Baka and Blood Wedding.
TS Nagabharana has created a niche for himself in the present Indian Cinema by winning 8 National and 14 State Awards. Seven of his films are selected for Panorama at International Film Festivals. He has received many prestigious awards and credentials apart from Gold Medals for his individual achievements for theatre and film activities, including Puttanna Kanagal and Rajyotsava Gold Medals. He has the unique distinction of being the only director to have an entry in the Mainstream section (Janumada Jodi) and the Indian Panorama (Nagamandala) in the same year of the International Film Festival of India 1998. Nagabharana has also won the prestigious Nargis Dutt National Integration Award of Government of India for his film Santa Sishunala Sharifa during 1989-90.
According to press release by Mr. Prakash Rao Payyar, President of Dhwani Pratishthana Award presenting ceremony will be held on Friday, 26th June 2009, 5.00 PM at Nashwan Hall, Al Nasr Leisureland, Dubai, U.A.E. On the occasion other guests from Karnataka Dr. B.V.Rajaram, Chairman - Karnataka Nataka Academy, Dr.C.Somashekar, I.A.S. and J. Shivashankar, Ex- Hon.Secretary, Kannada Sahitya Parishat are expected to attend and grace the occasion. Girish Karnad's "Odakalu Bimba" Kannada play directed by Prakash Rao Payyar and Kuchupudi dance by renowned dancer Ms. Naginibharna are the part of the entertainment programme.
