Udupi, Apr 28: Daniel Monteiro (48), resident of Kumaragodi in the taluk and an ardent stamp-collector, has now glued his name and achievements to the pages of the Limca Book of Records.
An employee of the SMS College, Brahmavar, Daniel has been a keen bird-watcher and lover of the Environment. With a staggering collection of 8000-plus stamps on birds, he has taken part in over 150 philatelic exhibitions in different parts of India as also countries like Singapore, Austria, Indonesia, Belgium, China, South Korea, Thailand, Hongkong and South Africa.
Daniel has won ten silver and bronze medals at the global level and 30-plus gold and silver medals at the national leval for his collection. A large part of his collection has birds and ornithology as their theme. His collection of 8,000 stamps exclusively on birds won accolades at the 'Featherpex 2009'. He has been honoured by over 30 organizations and institutions so far.
A passionate stamp-collector for over two decades, he has taken part as resource person in many workshops on the Environment and also philately.
He has also participated in wild-life awareness programmes held by the department of forests in Udupi, Karkala, Moodbidri, Madikeri, Bhadravati and Shimoga. His write-ups on birds have appeared in many newspapers, periodicals and souvenirs.
