Mangalore: 'All developmental activities will cause discomfort for a few people. For better good we have to accept some inconveniences,' said AICC secretary Oscar Fernandes here on Saturday, May 5.

He was responding to a question on MSEZ's alleged dumping of mud into the Phalguni river for the construction of road-cum-pipeline corridor, at a media meet.

With the residents of the region fearing displacement by floods during rainy season, Fernandes promised to visit the spot to overview the situation in the region.

He said that Supreme Court had directed the Pollution Control Board to investigate into the pollution caused by the Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL). It was the duty of the state government to implement the recommendations of the Pollution Control Board, he said.

Speaking on the presidential elections, he said that Congress was yet to finalize a candidate. He agreed that Pranab Mukherjee was one of the potential candidates. He also expressed his confidence that Congress would win the MLC elections of teachers and graduates constituency.

He was here to attend a party workers' meet at the Congress office, after the victory in Lok Sabha bypoll in Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency.

MLA U T Khader, AICC member P V Mohan, KPCC secretaries Ivan D'Souza and Gafoor, former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty and other Congress leaders and party workers were present.

Mr. Oscar is the biggest inconvenience to all people in Canara and Karnataka. Please go away and let congress come back in Karnataka. Mr. Oscar is unwanted by his own people. It is already proved many times by the people. Congress is yet to accept this fact. Anyway the fact is he will never win any direct election in future.

May be it is possible that Sri Oscar Fernandes be considered for the position of prez or VP at least. Hindus,Muslims, Sikhs..all the prominent groups have had the graet honour of having their own as Prez and VP over the last 65 yrs of the Republic of India! It is fitting that without further a do, all the concerned must commit them selves that it is now well past the time to have a CHRISTIAN as the Prez or VP and set about getting the best possible candidate from the Christian group and let all the Christians not loose this opportunity and make all out efforts!!!-ijss.
