Puttur: Dr Dinesh Amin (56), hailing from Kuttar on the outskirts of Mangalore, died of drowning in the Gundya river in the taluk on Sunday, May 27.

Dr Amin, who ran clinics in Kumpala and Ambalapadavu, had gone on a visit to Shri Kukke Subrahmanya with his  brother Prakash's families. On way back on NH 75, they stopped over for his two children to play in water in Gundya river.

As he went in search of a suitable place to play for children, without realizing the depth, Dr Amin is said to have lost physical balance and slid into deep water. The children screamed but no one from the group dared to save him since they did not know how to swim.

Local swimmers Satish Gundya and others dived and pulled him up and he was rushed to a hospital in Mangalore, but it was too late to save his life.
