Manipal :
A shocking instance of daylight robbery has taken place at Laxmindra Nagar near Udupi where a group of 3 youths looted gold and jewellery from a lonely, elderly woman.

Uma Shanker Nivas is where Jayanti Kini, an elderly widow, lives. Jayanti Kini's husband having died some years ago, she has been living all alone in the house.  Taking advantage of this situation, a gang of 3 young robbers have managed to loot her of her earrings and bangles on her person.

The culprits had put a nylon rope noose round her neck to prevent resistance before snatching the jewellery. The house wears a look of having been ransacked and the cupboards knocked down. The robbers seem to have taken many more things from the spot, the details of which are yet to be known. While taking away earrings from Jayanti, her earlobes are ripped off. She is currently in hospital receiving treatment.

Udupi district's additional SP Venkateshappa, town police sub inspector Girish, other police officers, canine squad and fingerprint experts visited the spot of crime.  A complaint has been lodged in Udupi town police station.
