Mangalore: A youth jumped off the first floor of Shravan bar and restaurant building, opposite KSRTC bus stand here on June 11.

Praveen aged around 25 to 28 from Akaashbhavan, Konchadi, who was in a drunken state when he did so. According to the shop-keepers, rooms on the first floor of the building are given on rent.  John, an autorickshaw driver said that Praveen, who was heavily drunk, was lying in the corridor. When he woke and wanted to come down, he might have lost balance and fallen down, he said.

It is a question now that as  to how he managed to go up there on the well-protected building and how he could fall off the first floor which is covered by a large hoarding.

The Urva police and 108 ambulance rushed and reached the spot on time. Praveen was given first aid on the spot.  He had sustained minor injuries. After being given treatment, the police have taken him into custody for further investigation.

When our correspondent asked the police about the circumstances of falling from the top, they said that there were about 7 or 8 youth in the area who are always found in a drunken state. They had just a while earlier poured water on another youth who was found on the roadside in a drunken state.

The increasing cases of youth getting addicted to alcohol have raised many questions. The youth are said to be the country's future but a large number of them, quite sadly enough, are found getting addicted to alcohol, drugs and the like.

These young men should have taken to the hospital and treated for alcoholism. What is police going to do at that point. Many of younger men fall for this addiction one way or other. They should get help and treat for alcoholism before it is too late.
