Kundapur:  A street play was presented at Shastri circles here on Thursday, June 14 jointly by the department of labour, district child labour yojana sangha, with a view to creating awareness about child labour.

It was presented under the leadership of artiste Chakrapani, Karnataka Rajyotsava award recipient, nine artistes from Mysore Sanskriti Kala team. It was aimed at eradicating child labour throughout the state. Although the number of child labour in the district is minimal, yet this is being done for prohibiting child labour entirely here.  The labour department and the district Sangha are extending continuous support to such programmes, which aim at enlightening the common man against child labour.

This troupe, apart from creating awareness against child labour, throws light on the Right to Information, the local culture,  untouchability, communal harmony, natural farming,  HIV, consumers' awareness and such issues to the public through meaningful street plays staged at public places.

"We have been into it for the past 10 years, creating awareness among the public. The government departments have been responding well to our efforts.  We have held programmes in 15 districts in the state," says Chakrapani from Mysore, who is a recipient of Rajyotsava Award and director of Sanskriti troupe.
