Manipal: Late Night Boat Ride Claims Two Lives

Manipal: Students from MIT College, Manipal who had gone on a late night swim to a lake has resulted in two deaths, but one has survived as reported  by Manipal Police station.

The deceased are been identified as Kiran Chandra of Bangalore  Nikhila of Hyderabad.

On Friday, around midnight the students had arrived for swimming in Mannapalla Lake near Manipal. The students had occupied a boat, which was not in a good condition --but took a chance to go for a ride. After a short time during the ride water started to enter the boat, as a result the boat started sinking in the lake. As per sources, the students were not authorized to operate the boat, even the owner of the boat was unaware of this.
 
Shaunak managed to swim and reached the shore safely assuming that his friends will also accompany him. But after a long wait he complained to the Manipal Police Station. The police arrived and have been searching for the dead bodies of Kiran and Nikila from 5 am, the dead bodies and the boat are not yet found.
 
A case has been registered in Manipal Police Station.  Udupi district police superintendent Dr. Borelingaih visited the spot.  Fire servicemen and swimming experts/divers are still searching for the bodies

Oh well, it explains it all. A loss of life is always tragic. I am hoping that our youngsters learn to appreciate the importance of safety in whatever they do.
