Karkala : A case in which a man killed his wife, and later killed himself has been reported from Doopadakatte here on June 20.

Jagadish Poojary, aged 35 years and hailing from Puttur, had married a divorcee mother of 2 children, Malini Shetty, aged 32 years.  Thereafter they lived in a rented house in town.

Everything was going fine, until they arrived in Doopadakatte to attend the first death anniversary of Malini's father. It was there that the couple picked up a quarrel.

When the altercation went out of control Jagadish slapped Malini and threw her mobile phone.  As soon as  the anniversary rituals got over, Jagadish went back home and ordered his wife too to return home.  

Around 10.30 am when Malini's children had gone to school, Jagadish took Malini to task.  In fit of rage Jagadish took a machete and attacked Malini, hacking her in the neck, back and stomach, Malini succumbed to the injuries the soon after.  After killing his wife Jagadish hanged himself in the bedroom. 

According to sources, normally the main door of the house was always kept open after the children went to school and Malini used to sit outside.  On Wednesday, when the door was locked and Malini was not seen outside, one of the neighbours peeped from the window. 

To her horror, the neighbour found Jagadish hanging inside the room.  Immediately he called Karkala police station.  The police reached the spot and broke the main door and entered the house. 

Malini was lying in a pool of blood and Jagadish was hanging in the room.  Circle inspector Valentine D'Souza who investigating the case sent both the bodies for post mortem to the community health centre.  A case has been registered in the Karkala rural police station for further investigation.
 
Mother of Malini, Uma, speaking to Mangalorean.com said that the marital relations between Malini and Jagadish were not in good and they kept fighting everyday.  Even Uma does not know the family of Jagadish. Malini's two children are studying in tenth and seventh standard.
