Karkala: The body of the man Jagannath who had killed his wife Malini and then committed suicide in Berandottu Doopadakatte near here on Wednesday, June 20 was lying in the government hospital in Ajjarkad, Udupi.

After reading reports in the media, his parents, Dooma Poojary and Girija from Toombatadka in Puttur near Udupi, visited the hospital and identified it as that of their son's on Friday, June 22. The police completed the legal formalities and handed over the body to them.

They said that Jagannath had left home five years and his whereabouts were not known to them until they read in the newspapers about the tragedy in Doopadakatte.

Malini was earlier married and had two children by her first marriage. She married Jagannath later. A misunderstanding led to an altercation in their rented house in Doopadakatte on Wednesday, finally culminating in her murder and his suicide. The children have been orphaned now.

Uma, the mother of Malini, had told our correspondent on Wednesday that she did not know the antecedents of Jagannath. Malini's decision to get married to Jagannath appears to have been her own.
