Udupi: Prasad Raj, brother of Udupi district Congress block youth president Pramod Madhwaraj, son of former BJP MP Manorama Madhwaraj and proprietor of Coronet Canning Company in Malpe, died in a private hospital in Mangalore on June 23, following a brief illness.

Prasad was being treated in the intensive care unit and was on life support for kidney failure. His first wife Monika, an air hostess, had committed suicide by jumping off an apartment in Attavar in Mangalore a few years ago. Later he married actor Durga Shetty, who too separated from him after some time.

Pramod was taking care of Prasad and tried hard to save his brother's life. In spite of all the efforts Prasad breathed his last at 7.30 p.m on Saturday.

His mortal remains will be placed for public homage at the parental house in Malpe from 9-30 am on Sunday, June 24. The final rites will be held nearby at 1-00 pm.

Prasad, after his Engineering studies in Bangalore, was at the helm of Coronet Canning Company as chief executive for 20 years from 1982 to 2002. Later on, he moved to Mangalore.

He is survived by mother Manorama, brother Pramod and five sisters.

I am truly saddened hearing the news of Prasad Anna's demise. He was an amazing person who was always so kind and considerate to everyone who knew him. His passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His fond memory will always remain deep within our hearts. My sincere thoughts and prayers go out to his family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
