Udupi: The district-level Badminton Tournament  - 2012 for under-13, 15, 17 and 19 years'  boys and girls was held in the district indoor stadium at Ajjarkad here on Saturday June 24. It was inaugurated deputy commissioner Fr M T Reju.
 
MLA Raghpathi Bhat presided over the function. In his message he said that permanent training programme will be held for ball badminton, table tennis and chess. "We have held a month-long badminton camp successfully,  under the leadership of Udupi district sports stadium committee and Badminton Association. But the sportsperson need regular practice.  When we contacted Prakash Padukone, we were asked to get in touch with Anil Kumble, president of Tenvic Institute, which we did. And we were assured of imparting of training by him," he said.

"They insist on minimum 60 people.  This being the first year of starting the programme, they have asked for 40 finally. Each one will have to pay Rs 1,350 towards tax.   Rs 750 will be collected from the participants and the remaining amount would be collected from donors," he said.

Here opportunities must be made available  for rising to national and international levels.  Two or three trained trainers, physiotherapists and dietitians will provide necessary training. Also, training for chess and table tennis will be offered.  The training Programme will commence from July 10, it has been informed.
 
Municipal president Kiran Kumar, businessman Purushottam Shetty, Devananda Prabhu, district assistant sports director Nagaraj and Tenvic Institute's Sudeep Prabhu were present on the occasion.

Prakash Kodavoor, general secretary, District Badminton Association welcomed the guests. V Noor proposed a vote of thanks.  Sandeep anchored the programme.  Bad Minton Training will be held for 2 days.

Under 15 Boys: Vignesh Pai (winner) - Suprith S Kundar (21-12 &  21-17)  Glanish Pinto (winner) -Varun Raj Kumar (21-11 and 21-15)

Under 15 Girls: Neha Harish(winner) – Amiya Shetty(26-24 and 21-4) Glancia A. Pinto (winner) – Mythreeyi (21-3 and 21-4) (winners Neha Harish and Glancia A Pinto qualified for Final)

Under 17 Boys: Govardhan Shenoy (winner) – Ramdas Nayak ( 21-11 and 21-13) Glanish Pinto (winner) – Bennet Pinto (21-14 & 21-5)
