Udupi: Indian Medical Association Udupi Karavali chapter staged a protest at the deputy commissioners office Rajatadri in Manipal on Monday June 25, to protest against the National Council for Human Resources in Health (NCHRH) Bill 2011.
Association chapter president Dr Sathish Kamath said, "Passing of the NCHRH bill is purely be in the interest of the government. The medical profession needs an independent council. One under governmental control will not be able to provide a fair assessment of the medical, educational issues or the delivery of healthcare. NCHRH as a single body cannot be the investigating, prosecuting, judging and penalizing body. It is against natural law. The voice of the medical practitioner is being choked in the NCHRH, which is to replace the medical council of India."
Further he said that if the bill was passed the council would execute the orders by the government and that there would not be any representation from professional organization like IMA or health universities. This would affect the health education scenario in the country.
Later Association members submitted a memorandum to deputy commissioner Dr M T Reju to be forwarded. Association secretary Dr Umesh Nayak, treasurer Dr Sudhesh Kumar U, Dr Sudesh Rao, Dr Rama Shetty, Dr Sulochana Hollla, Dr Vijayalakshmi Nayak, Dr Sandeep Shenoy and others were present

IMA is a lobbying assoication that protects errant doctors. If you want to sue any doctor in India it becomes impossible to find a doctor that would testify against another doctor. IMA has programs to defend doctors against law suits.
Recent story of medical erros on Satayameva Jayathe by Amir Khan has opened people's eyes to medical errors. Always get a second opinion in case you have to have surgery, suregons are ready to chop anyone just for money. |
