Udupi: In a very unexpected incident a female, Shakunthala aged 45 years, was found strangled to death in her bedroom on 25 June 2012, at her newly inaugurated residence “Devi Nithyananda” located at Gudiam on the Kemmannu Hoode main road.
Shakunthala had just returned from Mumbai on Monday 25. She lived in that house along with her two children Akshitha and Akshay . Shakunthala was found dead when her daughter returned from school in the evening.

The door of the bedroom was locked and Shakunthala was lying on the floor with a shawl around her neck. Returning from Mumbai this morning, she had paid a visit to the bank to check if the money sent by her husband Ashok who is working in Muscat was deposited to her account. However the relatives say there has been no theft and it does not look like any other assets were stolen.
“Mummy usually opens the door and comes out as soon as I call out her name from the courtyard, but today she did not come out. I went to the kitchen and later opened the latch of the bedroom and I saw her lying on the ground” said her weeping daughter Akshitha. The neighbours immediately informed the police and the ambulance reached the spot within 15 minutes.
The neighbours say they spotted two people who came in a scooter at around 2.00pm to her house. Doctor confirmed that Shakunthala died at around 3.00pm just an hour before the people came to know about the incident. The police and finger print experts also rushed to the spot. A case has been registered and investigation is going on.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat and SP Dr Borelingaih also visited the spot. |
