Mangalore: Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore has appointed Fr Pius James D’Souza OCD as the new episcopal vicar for the religious in the diocese of Mangalore.

Following the transfer of Fr Ronnie Prabhu SJ to Bangalore, the office of the episcopal vicar for the religious in the diocese of Mangalore had fallen vacant.  in his capacity, Fr Pius will be a representative of the Bishop to all the religious of the diocese and his task is to guide the religious entrusted to his care, fostering their services within the diocese.

Fr Pius James D’Souza is a Carmelite priest hailing from Agrar - now under the jurisdiction of Farla - parish. Having completed his Masters degree in Philosophy at the Karnataka University, Dharwad, he acquired his Masters in English Literature from the Mysore University.

Later he was sent to Rome for Biblical studies. He is a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome and a PhD in Biblical Theology from the Gregorian University Rome.

Currently, he is the superior of the Carmelites at St. Joseph’s Monastery, Infant Jesus Shrine, Mangalore and also teaches Sacred Scripture in many seminaries, including St Joseph’s Seminary at Jeppu in the city.
