Bantwal: Gang of Thieves Nabbed - Valuables Worth Rs 6.12 Lakh Seized

Bantwal: The local police have arrested three notorious thieves last week, on charges of thefts in several places in the district. Gold ornaments worth Rs 6.12 lakh have been seized from their possession.

They were found by the police on patrol while they were moving about in the Manihalla bus stop near Navoor in the early hours of June 21 in suspicious circumstances.

They have been identified as Indrajit aka Indra (44) of Hassand district, Babruvahana aka Ashok (24) and Gopi (19) of Hagarle. Indra was arrested on the spot, while the two others had managed to escape. They too have been arrested now.

DK superintendent of police Abhishek Goyal gave the details of the arrest and the articles seized at a media meet here on Wednesday, June 27. Following several theft cases in Polali, Bantwal, Sajipa Nadu, Kodange, Kepu-Vittal, Neerkaje, Aladka, Ujire in Beltangady, Uppinangady in Puttur taluk.

Gold ornaments weighing 200 gms and silver weighing 195 gms have been seized from them. The culprits have been leading a nomadic life, roaming from place to place, doing rag-picking during daytime and thieving in the night. They had lived in B C Road bypass, Pumpwell, Beltangady and Uppinangady by pitching tents.
