Udupi: It is learnt that the police interrogated many locals and neighbours in connection with the murder of a lonely woman since the clues available were insufficient to arrive at any conclusion.

Shakuntala Poojari (35), wife of Ashok Poojary, a resident of Heroor in Udupi was strangled to death with a shawl tightened around her neck. Ashok arrived from Muscat soon after hearing the news.

The locals have said that some time before the incident took place they saw two people arriving on a scooty to visit Shakuntala's house. It is believed that they were acquaintances since two glasses of cool drinks were found in the kitchen. It implies that they were offered to the visitors.

The incident took place after Shakuntala returned home from the bank where she had gone to check the balance in her account into which her husband who is working abroad kept remitting.

However, the murder was not done for robbing as money, gold and other valuables in the house were not touched. The police have stated that this murder could be the consequency of some family dispute.

The cruel act came to light after her two children returned home from school. After her husband arrived from abroad, the final rites were held.
