This subject and it's cycleis very vicious - Due to low bank interests offered by the RBI, people with excess money started investing in real estate and/or purchasing apartments in and around education centers like mangalore and manipal, and then renting out to foreign students with a good financial gain. Nothing wrong with it or nothing illegal about it (except ofcourse the IT Dept.) However, due to this phenomenon, the price psf of apartments in and around mangalore/udupi have shot to unbelievable heights, however, the builders register at MCC at only 60% of it's cost.
Not that the whole of India and the people in governance and authority do not know about it - the people in authority, they benefit from paying a blind eye - anyway a lot of property tax is collected by the government that gives nothing in return - not even a road, pavement or a drainage.
Note how many years the NH17 will take to complete in mangalore, and the quality of construction - whose money is the government paying with - any mindfullness?

I don't believe Dr Harish Kumar, MCC Commissioner will or can bring about a check and a change on this subject, to benefit those people in mangalore/udupi who really need a roof or a home, since all Builders are good buddies to all people in authority and governance - but God is watching!

The MCC is doing nothing about the unhygenic eateries that operate in mangalore. Check out the flies that swarm the sugarcane stalls for example. Raiding Ocean Pearl is just a publicity stunt. The people who go there can afford to pay their medical bills in case of any problem. The low cost eateries that cater to the common man have to have some standards for hygiene especially cleanliness of the vessels, counters, dishes and the linen used for cleaning. I think Kerala is far better than mangalore as far as cleanliness in eateries is concerned.
