Udupi: Annual Attimabbe Award - Two Women in Winning Trio from District

Udupi: Woman poet Sukanya Kalasa and woman playwright Katyayini Kunjibettu have been nominated to receive the prestigious Attimabbe award instituted by the Attimabbe Foundation. The third one from the district to bag the award is author-humourist H Shantaraj Aithal for his essay for light reading, 'Bengaloorige Bandaaga Namma Manegoo Banni' (Visit our Home too while at Bangalore) in the light reading section.

The Foundation has chosen Sukanya Kalasa's collection of poems, 'Holiyuva Kaigalu' (The Hands that Sew), published in 2010, which had also won the Kadenglodlu Poetry Award from the Govinda Pai Reseach Centre of Kunjibettu in Udupi.

Katyayini Kunhibettu's book 'Mooru Natakagalu' published the same year, has been selected for the award. This book had also won the 'Aralu' award from the Kannada Sahitya Parishat.

The Attimabbe awards will be presented to the Udupi trio and others at a function to be held under the chairmanship of Prof Chandrashekhar Patil in the Kannada Sahitya Parishat premises at 10-30 am on Sunday, July 8.
