Kasaragod: In a shocking incident, gold and silver ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 6.50 lakh were stolen from the house of Ramakrishna Bhakta near Shri Veera Vithal Kshetra in Kumbla during daytime on Thursday, July 5.

Bhakta is an accountant in Mangalore, travelling every day to and fro. While their children had gone to school, around 12-30 pm, his wife had gone to visit her mother.

When the homemaker returned at 2 pm, the front door was found open with a broken lock. The house had been looted of valuables like Rs 15,000 in cash, 700 gms of silver, 28 sovereign gold including two gold chains, 8 rings, 3 gold coins and two bracelets, the total value of which is estimated at Rs 6.50 lakh.

The theft is thought to have taken place precisely during her one-and-a-half-hour absence. Persons who had kept track of their movements are suspected to have committed the act.

A complaint has been registered by the Kumbla police.
