Mangalore: In a daring act of robbery, two persons riding a motorbike waylaid an autorickshaw on Saturday, July 7 and robbed the occupant of a briefcase containing a large sum. The incident occurred very close to the Ullal police station.

Ibrahim of Alekala Kadehitlu was in an autorickshaw, carrying the briefcase, containing Rs 2.62 lakh, towards the bidi collection centre near the police station for making payments to suppliers. As the vehicle reached the Islahi educational institutions, two men arrived in a bike, splashed chilli powder into the eyes of the driver and Ibrahim.

Although unnerved initially, Ibrahim tried to wrest back the suitcase from the duo. To divert his attention, the two men threw a few bundles of money on the road and fled with a major portion in the briefcase.

The Ullal police have registered a case. They said that it was an act of persons who were aware that Ibrahim was carrying money at that time. That the incident took place so close to the police station has shocked many residents around and traders.
