Udupi: Hundreds of youth, women, and children were seen actively taking part in sports in slushy field at Alevoor. The competitions showcased rural sports of the region in its glory and splendour at Nailapade at Alevoor village on Sunday July 8.

The annual ‘Kesardonji Dina’ was organised by the Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti of Guddeyangadi, Alevoor. Competitions such as running race, running backwards, tug-of-war, volleyball, were held in the marshy field.

Competitions were held separately for men, women, girls and boys. The competition was inaugurated by Praksh Bhat Manipal.

The participants were treated with rural meal of ganji, pickles, chutney, and huruli saaru. People enjoyed this simple but delicious meal, after having exhausted all their energy in the sports.

Shiroor Mutt pontiff Sri Laxmivaratheertha sawamiji, Former MLA U R Sabhapathi, Alevoor grama panchayath president Harish Kini, Sarvajanika Ganeshothsava samithi president Rajesh Shetty, Honarary president Shekar Poojary, Umesh G Shetty, Shekar Kalmady, Sadananda poojary and others were present on the occasion.
