Team Mangalorean Udupi

Udupi: The 5-star State Ranking Badminton Championship for under-13, 15, 17 and 19 years' men, women and veteran events was inaugurated in the District Indoor Stadium at Ajjarkad here on Sunday July 8.  The tournament was inaugurated by Entrepreneur Dr. G Shanker who wished the participants and the tournament all success. Udupi District Superintendent of Police Dr. Borlingaih presided over the function. Udupi district BJP Chief Uday Kumar Shetty, Udupi distirct ASP Venkateshappa, Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Association Secretary Prakash M Kodavoor, Treasurer Devanand, Zafrulla, Sandeep Nayak, Sohael Amin and others were present.

The tournament was organized by Udupi District Badminton Association under the aegis of The Karnataka Badminton Association The seven-day meet has attracted top ranked players from the state. The competitions will be under-13, 15, 17, 19, men, women and veteran events spread in 14 categories. As many as 1000 players are likely to take part in the seven-day meet which carries the highest cash (Rupees One Lac seventy two thousand eight hundred ) prize money. Apart from the winners and runners-up of respective categories, the losing semi finalist too will also be considered for the prize money. The tournament would be held in singles and doubles categories. International fame Indian badminton player Prakash Padukone will take part in the concluding ceremony.
