Udupi: In a swift operation, a team led by Dr. Prabhudev Mane DySP has cracked down the murder case of Radhu Karkera (75) of Ammunje House Thenkabeettu Uppoor, informed Dr. Boralingaiah M B Superintendent of Police Udupi district, at a press meet held at the SP Office, Bannnje on Monday July 9, 2012.  Arrested person has been identified as Annappa Poojary (32) s/o Eshwara of Nayampalli, Santhekatte Udupi.

 
Further he said that under the guidance and supervision of SP of Udupi distirct and M V Venkateshappa Additional SP of Udupi district two teams under the leadership of Dr. Prabhudev Mane, DySP Udupi Sub-Division were formed.  One team under Prabhu DT CPI Brahmavar included Rohini Patil, Probationary PSI, ASI Balakrsihana WHC, Pushpa, HC’s Shylesh, Ravikumar, PC Satish, and another team under  Girish Kumar PSI Brahmavar included Manju, Probationary PSI, members of DySP Crime Squad were formed. Both the teams had worked vigorously for the last 5 days. DCIB Staff were also engaged in this process, he said.
 

On Monday July 9, 2012 early morning the team led by Girish Kumar PSI Brahmavar were successful in nabbing Annappa Poojary. During his interrogation, he revealed that a month back when he had gone for cutting trees at Radhu Karkera’s compound, he had seen her wearing gold ornaments and immediately he thought of robbing them. Later he conspired another person to help in robbing Karkera and kill her..  As planned on July 3 afternoon both went to her house and killed her by strangling and robbed her gold ornaments.  As per Annappa’s confession, one gold chain weighing 33 gms has been recovered from his house. He will be produced before the court. Efforts are being continued to trace the another accused who is at large he said.

Radhu Karkera  had left Bombay 5 years back and had settled in Ammunje. She was living alone in her house. Her son Gopal used to bring food and medicine to her daily. As such on the morning of July 3, he had visited his mother and gave her breakfast and medicine. The same day on his returns home from work, he had visited his mother around 4pm. But to his shock he found his mother lying dead in the kitchen. She was found murdered with stab wounds on her neck and nose. A 30 gram gold chain with pendent, a 6 gram gold earings and 18 gram two gold bangles were being looted from her.

The district police which has taking this incident as a challenge, has succeeded in arresting the culprit within  5 days of the offence. Dr.  Boralingaiah highly appreciated the work done by the team led by Dr.  Parbhudev Mane and has declared Rs. 20000 as reward for the team.
