Mangalore: Excise department arrested a liquor smuggler at a Auto rickshaw stand near Surathkal Railway station, here on July 13.
Umesh Alias Nagesh Naik aged 24 and Premjith Alias Narayanan both hailing from Kasargod, Kerala, were smuggling about 2,250 sachets of Liquor from Goa to Kerala. According to the sources both Umesh and Premjith were travelling from Goa by Konkan railway and by getting down at Surthkal Railway Station, they thought that it was the safest station to get out and move further with their activity.














This morning at around 7 a.m when Umesh and Premjith were carrying 2,250 sachets of ' Honey Guide ' brandy in 9 bags and were coming towards the autorickshaw stand from the railway station. The excise police on intimation reached the spot and arrested Umesh,while Premjith escaped.
Each sachet contains 90 ml of liquor, the selling cost of each sachet is Rs 6 in Kerala where as in Mangalore it sells for Rs 13 ,said the DC of Excise Hoovappa Gowda in a press meet held at the Excise office here on July 13.
A number of 2,250 sachets have been seized from the culprits. The cost of the seized liquor is estimated at Rs 30,000. The excise police are searching for Premjith who has escaped from the spot when the operation was going on.
Inspector Vijaya Kumar, Sub Inspector M Shivananda Gatti, Excise police constables Surendra, Chandrahas Shetty, Jnandev, U Umesh and driver Raghuram were also present during the time of the operation. |
