Udupi: On the occasion of Karkataka Aati Amavasya tribute was paid to the ancestors at the  Malpe sea shore on Thrusday July 19, 2012.

People from various places came here to perform ‘Pitru Trapana’, a religious ritual performed to pay homage to the ancestors. People took holy dip in the sea  and performed the ritual of ‘Pinda pradhaana’. Traditional rituals were performed.

In Tulunadu, during ' Karkataka Aati Amavasya ' as part of the tradition people drink a concoction prepared from the barks of ‘Hale Mara’ (sap of Devil's Tree - Alstonia Scholaris) for good health.
