Beltangady: Four friends visited the renowned Karinja temple in Bantwal taluk on the occasion of Ashadha ('Aati') Amavasya on Thursday, July 19. They did not expect that two among them would not complete the day's mission.

Poornaksha of Puduvettu working in Padmashri Electronics in Guruvayanakere, Pradeep from Bajire in Venur, Pradeep from Karambar and Vinay Kumar Shetty from Berkala, after visiting Karinja, arrived in foru motorbikes at Gunderi in the afternoon and began bathing in the river at Perodittayakatte in Tenkakarandoor village in the taluk.

As they were in the water,  they were dragged by the river currents. Poonaksha and Pradeep Venur were good swimmers. Besides saving themselves, they tried to save Pradeep Karambar and Vinay who did not know swimming, but did not succeed.

The bodies of Pradeep (25), youngest son of Anni Moolya of Karambar near Perodittayakatte, and Vinay Kumar Shetty (27), son of Berkala near Guruvayanakere, were later found around 6 pm.
