Bangalore: A new state-of-the-art Cancer Centre is coming up at St. Johnís Medical College Hospital. The centre was recently in the news when the brand new Linear Accelerator was blessed by the Most Rev. Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore and Governing Council Chairman.
The gathering was welcomed by Rev Fr. Lawrence DíSouza, Director of St. Johnís National Academy of Health Sciences. He shared the background of the relationship between St. Johnís and Leslie Fernandes who has donated generously, enabling the procurement of the Linear Accelerator.
The Linear Accelerator was donated by Leslie Fernandes in memory of his late wife, Cynthia Fernandes, who succumbed to cancer a few years ago.
Fittingly, to him was bestowed the honor of formally inaugurating the Linear Accelerator facility.
This was followed by solemn prayers, and the blessing of the facility by Archbishop Most Rev Dr. Moras, who thanked Leslie Fernandes for his generosity towards treating poor cancer patients.
Leslie Fernandes was felicitated on the occasion by Rev Fr Glen Mascarenhas, Associate Director Ė Finance, of St. Johnís National Academy of Health Sciences.
Friends & family members of Mr. Leslie & Late Mrs. Cynthia Fernandes graced the occasion.
This comprehensive facility will further enhance the role of St. Johnís Medical College Hospital as a provider of high-quality, affordable medical care and fulfill Leslie Fernandes wish to honor his wifeís memory in a befitting way. Sharing the profound gratitude of the management to Mr. Leslie Fernandes, Fr. Lawrence DíSouza mentioned that the institution has taken a decisive step to have its own dedicated institute of Oncology and expressed hope that this generosity would inspire many more to show their goodwill to the institution in similar ways.
