Mangalore :  The Red Cross Society, Aids Awareness Education Cell and NSS Units of St Agnes College, in association with Fr. Muller Medical College, The united Friends Club Bejai and the Lions, Lioness and Leo Club, organized a Blood donation camp at St Agnes College Auditorium, Bendur here on July 28.

The programme began with an invocation by Dipika. Vice President, Science Stream, St Agnes College. Shruti Kamath, secretary of NSS, welcomed the gathering welcomed. The programme was inaugurated by the principal of St Agnes College, Dr Sr Marie Prem D'Souza AC by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Dr Kirana Pailoor (Pathologist) In-charge of Fr Muller Blood Bank, Kankanady, speaking on the occasion said that there is no any other substitute to human blood, single unit of blood can save minimum 3 to 4 lives.  In our society people suffer from Malaria, Dengue, Trauma and various other diseases and there will be a need of blood.  Blood donation is a noble gift because it saves lives.

She further said, that anyone from the age group of 18 to 60 years with weight above 45 kgs. can donate up to 450 ml of blood. The body can replenish this volume within 24 hours. She urged the students not to hesitate in donating blood, but to keep the spirit of saving lives and come forward to donate blood.

Sr Prem in her inaugural speech said that, few years back when she was planning to arrange blood donation camps, students used to be afraid and run, but now seeing the enthusiasm and eagerness to donate blood we can see the transformation of the mindset of the students. Further she stated that, life is all about making choices.  Before making choices we have to decide our choice, the choice should be to save someones life. Students should have the concern for others, if there is any emergency and any need of blood, we can save life by donating blood.  She urged the students to donate blood once in six months and make it as a regular practice and save lives. Let it be a encouragement for others to do the same. We can also donate our eyes, by registering our names.  If we donate our eyes, when we exit from this world, others can see through our eyes, so that we can live after death too.

The collected blood units were handed over to Fr Muller Hospital.
