Mangalore: St Joseph's Primary School held a felicitation programme to their retired Headmistress at the School auditorium, Nanthur here on July 28.

The programme began with an invocation followed by a welcome dance.  Senior Teacher Leena D'Silva welcomed the gathering.  The convener of the school and the Parish priest of St Sebastian Church Bendur Fr Antony Serrao along with the Vice president of the Bendur parish council Ronald Valder felicitated the Head Mistress Gladys Lasrado with a shawl, garland, fruits and citation. The children and the teachers too felicitated Lasrado.

Addressing the gathering Fr Antony Serrao said that, according to the government norms, Lasrado has retired but when we look she still looks fit to continue her work for a long time, she does not seem to look like she is ready for retirement.  She has served the school for 40 years and guided many of her students to become leaders in the society. Many old students of the school have reached top positions in various fields. She was a disciplined and energetic lady, a dedicated teacher and a perfect Head Mistress to St Joseph's school. Always with a broad smile she worked tirelessly. We all miss her smiling face in the school campus.

In her felicitation speech Gladys Lasrado, thanked all her senior teachers, who had helped and guided her in the beginning of her carrier. She further stated that, in her 40 years of service, she worked with integrity and tried her best to improve the quality of education.  As a English teacher she taught many students and they are working in various countries throughout the world. She thanked the students, staff members and the Parish council for recognizing her service and for the warm send off.  While concluding she said, " Discipline is the key to success and for students it holds great value in life".

Corporator D K Ashok addressing the gathering said, " Gladys Lasrado's 40 years of service will be appreciated because from past 4 years I have know her very well. She taught the moral values to the children and transformed the students as responsible citizens. While recalling her social activities, I can say that if she joins the Mangalore City Corporation, we will get more service from her ".

Ronald Valder and Venka Shettigar also spoke on the occasion.  Irene D'Souza compered the programme, Agnes Castelino delivered the vote of thanks.

I am pretty sure Mrs. Gladys Lasrado must have been proud on her felicitation day and receiving a life service award for all the contributions she rendered. But I doubt, she will rest on these laurels. Indeed, she has added a feather on her cap. Just as Fr. Antony Serrao said that she looks fit to continue her work for a long time, it is really nice to read the contributions that Mrs. Gladys Lasrado rendered during her 40 years of meritorious service and that this cycle should now be continued on by her other peers. Though I don't know Mrs. Gladys, it really makes me as a fellow Christian that much glad that she has inculcated her values to her near and dear ones and a beacon-of-inspiration. Indeed there are and there will be many more Gladys' elsewhere behind the scenes who go out of their way and quietly do their bit to make the world a better place to live in .. and striving hard to give the unfortunate sister / brethren solace and contentment as inculcated to her through her family virtues. They forego their own comforts in order to mitigate the shortcomings / sufferings one sees in this competitive and confusing era. God bless such noble souls. My salutes to you Mrs. Gladys.

Glady's Teacher the Head-Mistress of St. Joseph Primary school is simply superb. She has really done a lot for the School, Staff and the Children. She has never let any student empty handed when they have approached her. She is the best.
