Puttur: Thieves have decamped with gold ornaments of 49 sovereign value from a locked house in Atur-Ramakunja in the taluk. The theft came to light on Monday, July 30 morning.

The house belongs to Siddiq of Kundaje, who is employed in Saudi Arabia. He had come down only recently. His wife, hailing from Kannur, had gone to visit her parents, while Siddiq had gone to visit his mother in Atur.

In his complaint to the Uppinangady police, he is said to have cast suspicion on some people known to the family. Those who were aware of the stock of gold and also about the absence of both husband and wife may have done the act, said the police.

The locks of the front door and two bedrooms were also broken open. Besides gold, cheque books and passport also have been taken away.
