Bangalore: The groundswell of outrage over and protest against the Hindu Jagarana Vedike members' attack on private property and assault on young women at a resort in Padil in Mangalore last Saturday received support from unexpected quarters in the state assembly on Monday, July 30.

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa said that the incident of assault on and molestation of women had made the civil society to hang its head in shame. Severe punishment should be meted out to those who perpetrated this crime so that those with such intentions should think several times before doing such things in future, he said.

Handling women like it was a crime beyond forgiveness. Whichever organization did it, however influential they might be, should be punished without favour or fear, he added. He drew the attention of the house towards the statement by ADGP Bipin Gopalkrishna and Mangalore city police in no unclear terms that it was not a rave party that was going on there, he continued. (It may be recalled here that the HJV leaders have been claiming soon after the attack onwards that they had to barge in because a rave party was in progress.)

In the light of the official police statement, Yeddyurappa further suggested, the government should ensure explemplary punishment to the perpetrators so that no one in future would dare get into such misadventures.

The only solution is to invoke the Goonda Act or file a PIL in the high Court considering that the Chief Justice himself has expressed deep anguish over this barbaric assualt on innocent women.

Good Yeddy woke up when he lost his CM`s chair. At last he talks like human being. For all rioting hooliganism, hafta collection, extortion eve teasing, rave parties for those who do not have jobs. the real people do not think about that .they have their culture and carry on the same without adulteration of other culture.
In big cities like Mumbai those who keep culture they keep culture.

We appreciate your concern Mr. Yediyurappa. This incident has further eroded BJP's credentials. We know you have worried about that.
