| | From Lokpal to Votepal : A Diluted Mission |
 |
|
| | Published Date: 03 Aug, 2012 (2:09 PM) | By Dr P L Joshi , Bahrain After 16 months of corruption movement by Anna team, which was started with a big fanfare, the movement got diluted from purity to politics. Anna team has decided to jump into the politics and form a political party in order to bring a system change in the country. In my opinion, the mission has got diluted and Anna strategy has failed to fight corruption. The fasting of team Anna members has failed to pull crowd to support to their anti corruption movement. The main reason is that Anna team lacks the art of compromising and negotiating skills in a political arena.
I have serious apprehensions on the strength of the Anna team to fight elections in complex Indian scenario the way it is fought today. Indian elections are fought under the garb of family dynasty, party coteries, castism, money game, religion, and regional factors. Indian common man wants Roti Kapada and Makaan in order to survive in today's inflationary economy, and eradication of corruption is a secondary thought for them.
Anna corruption movement remained non-violence but when they fight election, they will be a part of violence environment. It is not an easy task to contest election in Indian system as one has to be a smart master of politics. I guess that Congress may pass the Lokpal Bill before 2014 elections and steal the show from Anna team. On what issues, Anna team will fight election then. I guess it may fight to lose election. Anna team should understand that it is not that easy to make a transition from a non political issue to a political issue in overnight.
My gut feeling says that Anna political party will turn out to be a private limited company ,and also an ancillary unit of Bhartiya Janta Party in political elections. They may not be able to maintain unity among themselves , and it will receive its natural death in due course. Fighting social issues are different from political issues and politics is a dirty game in this country. | |

| Yes , why not a political party ?. So that they can fight corruption democratically . More than corruption , let them eradicate illiteracy and poverty , bring back black money. that’s more than enough. |

It is interesting to read the comments of Dr. P.L. Joshi, who is in Bahrain. Well, if he wants to communicate with me, I would be happy. My email address is: nellew@rediffmail.com.
The fact of the matter is simple and straightfoward. Why will the Indian politicians want a Lok Pal Bill, when they are totally steeped into corruption and are living by the money they have not earned by the sweat of their brow?
Due to a totally corrupt Government, Anna Hazare has failed? Moreover, he has failed because the Indian population takes it lying down and did not support him. He and his team are a million times more honest than the stereotype Indian politicians and bureaucrats come across.
The other day I met an Indian professional who was introduced by my friend, as so and so Minister's nephew. I told him on his face that I have low opinion of most Indian politicnas. He, while parting, said that BJP is twice as corrupt as Congress. In short, he admitted that Congress is corrupt.
For me, all politicians, including Independents, are corrupt. One enters politics to not serve the people or country, but to amass wealth and by virtue of being in politics bring their relations into it, so that they can fool the people and rape the country.
Well will this stop. Well, people become agitated, take to the streets and chase these undesirables. |

Dr. Joshi, Your thoughts are so accurate. sad to see that Anna is taken for a ride and I think he is fully aware of it. Now it is too late for Anna team to change course.
It is too much to expect eradication of curruption in India. Pigs may fly one day, but unless fire falls from sky, curruption will remain a way of life in India. In one form or other.
Well said Mr Moorthy. Team Anna is spending lot of money. Anna claims that he s living on charity, and dresses in crisp kadi outfit, probably flying first class.
Where is all this money coming from. The financiers must expecting something in return someday.
What a life for poor Indian like me. I am happy that one day death will come with Time Up whistle and all will end. Peace thereafter. |

Anna Hazare is doing the right thing. India needs decent people to be in politics. No political party bar the Communist parties have any check on the caliber of candidates.
Why not a Narayan Moorthy, a Anna Hazare, a Kiran Bedi, a Justic Venkatacheliah, A Santosh Hegde, a Justice Saldanha, a Azin Premji running our govt. It would be much more efficient, clean and keep all the people in the nation satisfied. These are people who have achieved something of value in their lives.
An alternative political formation is needed to take on the current political system of corrupt, incompetent and rogue politicians who are in power today at all levels in society.
Political should be a passion not a life long profession as it is today. People who have has a successful career in other professions should serve in politics for a few years. We do not want people getting into politics as teenagers with no knowledge and then staying there till they grow old.
Trying to stage protest.satyagraha against the current system will not work. Right now there is no value that one needs to meet to be in politics. Look at our district, all kinds of goons, those who cant even speak in Indias top two languages are our leaders. It is a disgrace. |

Unfortunately, but true! All that has been said here is unfortunately true!
Anna started with anti-corruption as his objective, but all that was a game, plan, hidden agenda. His or his Teams' (ofcourse backed by BJP) main and final goal was to contest elections, and show some kind of restrain to Congress. Since BJP has lost all the moral and physical sense of reasoning, they had to bring someone into the scene to keep the issue of corruption alive. Poor and unassuming innocent Anna was offered a sacrificial lamb.
The original Team Anna split as everyone wanted to be a leader. Arvind and Bedi, soon will fall apart as both are over embitious and have started counting chicks before hatching!
Its clear from today's announcement that for the last 16 months, Team Anna was just begging some kind of sympathy wave, but even educated and wise people deserted them. All that now have remained are those who have nowhere to go.
Probably nothing will change, Team Anna might win a couple or few seats that will take them nowhere... BJP will try to pump in extra life, but will be disappointed.
Anyway, get ready for another state funeral!!
RIP, Team Anna!! |
