Mangalore: Speaking to mangalorean.com Corporator Mohan Padil clarified his presence at the Homestay, saying that, "I am a devotee of Ayyappa Swami and I am not missing Saturday prayer of Ayyappa.  I was getting ready to attend the pooja and ironing my clothes. At around 7.30 p.m I got a call from my neighbour about the attack on Home-stay, immediately I went to the place to check out what was happening"

" When I reached the spot, people of the locality were arguing and protesting with police because the police asked them to vacate the place. I went inside the Home- stay and I saw five girls and one boy sitting on the bed.  I came out from there and went near the crowd to calm them. But one police in blue T shirt was beating my neighbour Gangadhar. I went and asked the police why was he beating my friend because he has nothing to do with the attack. The police left Gangadhar and caught me and said who are you to ask me. I told him that I was a corporator and I am trying to do doing my duty. He arrested me along with others and took me to Kankanady rural police station, later after inquiring they released me," said Mohan Padil.

Regarding the attack on the home-stay and assault on college students, it is condemnable, said Mohan. He also said that Naveen the TV reporter has alleged that I was drunk during the time of assault, the allegation is not true because I have not consumed alcohol for the past 13 years, I don't eat non -vegetarian food nor do I smoke.

When asked about the rumors of extortion, he said, "I am a devotee of Ayappa Swami, and every year we organize pooja and  we collect some funds towards the same. The people of my ward whoever are willing to contribute to this good cause, so has the owner of Homestay who had contributed Rs 6,000,  three years ago. I am not collecting any money from anyone", he stated.

On the above issue, the Nagarika Seva Horata Samithi Women's Unit, Alape and Hindu Yuva Sene held a press meet at the press club here on August 6 condemning  the arrest of Corporator Mohan Padil by the police.

Addressing media persons  Hindu Yuva Sene spokesperson Vasudev Bhat,  said, "Mohan Padil is the representative of the people of Padil, he is the corporator of that area and a dignified person. From past 4 years he has served as the president of Nagarika Seva Horata Samithi and has helped the poor and the downtrodden in renovating the houses, book distribution to the poor students and organized many blood donation camps". " Whenever there was injustice in the ward, Mohan took the initiative in solving the problems. By seeing his leadership qualities he was selected to represent the ward from Padil and he won the elections and became the corporator of that ward"

" On July 28, Mohan Padil got the news of the attack on Morning Mist Homestay, and that the police had reached the spot and brought the situation under control.  Being a corporator of the ward he had gone to the 'home-stay' at 7.30 p.m  to see the situation. People were protesting outside the 'home -stay,' police resorted to lathi charge on them. Mohan Padil as a representative voiced his opposition against the lathi charge, one of the police officer assaulted Mohan Padil and he was taken into custody.  The act of the police officer on a representative of the ward is condemnable," accused Bhat.

He also said that the TV reporter Naveen Soorinje, telecasted "Sathyameva Jayathe", programme alleging that Mohan Padil was drunk and assaulted the police ,and that the police were also were in the drunken state.  Bhat  rejected the allegation put on Mohan Padil by the TV reporter. The false allegation has brought shame to the channel, he said.

Dear readers,

If the 'Home stay' property is running a illegal business as said by the corporation and Tourism Dept, how come Devoted Ayappa follower Mohan Padil took the donations of Rs6000 from the owner for his religious purpose? Is that money is not illegal?

If he received the information from His neighbour on Home stay attack why is he not dial the Police Emergency room for assistance??

Alcoholism is your personal choice. But is anybody ask you about non-veg or your smoking habit to justify the attack? Can you take swear to prove that Mr.Naveen is wrong and you are drunk?

This man is a elected representative and does not have basic knowledge of law.

God save our country.

On second thoughts we the people elect such ignorant hoodlums, what else can we expect.

This man thinks just because he is a corporator, he is the law enforcement too. He can barge into private homes, open refrigerators, check what is inside.

Collect money from the public in the name of Ayappa without any tax receipts. Use small portion on the pooja, and the rest on yourself.
Now, you become a hero from a zero.

Good job, keep looting in the name of religion.

From this man's statements it is clear that he lacks knowledge about laws and his limitations as a corporator.

Mr. Mohan Padil, everyone is equal under law, you have no right to interfere is the job of police, if they were beating your friend, your job was to collect evidence and report it to higher authorities, corporators are not Gods nor do they have any clemency powers. Mr. Padil everyone is equal under law including you. the police should book you under the offense of interfereing with the law enforcement official.

With regard to Ayyappa devotee, he knows everyone's Karma, if you had too much of it he will get you one of these days.

This appears to be a case of extortion gone wrong. If an investigation is launhed then Mohan's hand in these attacks will become evident.

Hey how do all like Sonaksi Sinhas dress backless back open in the movies. It is also a culture ,culture of cinema. In this episode the girls jacket was snatched and one Hindu vedike fellow wearing that leaving the girls back open and molested.
Mohan Padil agreed that he collected money Rs 6000/-Nobody is giving money willingly. If one person gave Rs 6000/-how much money is collected from everyone.Pooja has to be done collecting money without asking. Here it is implied in the name of pooja offering to God God does not ask so much money.

This is nothing but cock-and-bull story dished out by this guy. These goons and their supporters will have plenty of "explanations." If the police had surrounded the place how could he have entered the premises and was arrested only after he came out!
