Mangalorean Damsels Rock Bollywood, Ester Noronha the New Role Model

Published Date: 17 Aug, 2012 (2:44 PM)

By Alfie D'Souza, Team Mangalorean

Mangalore: Is it the food power of Kori-Rotti and Chicken Sukka or Pork Bafat and Chicken Vindaloo or the 'Bonda Neer' and 'Gadbad Ice Cream' or other good Mangalorean cuisine, that some Mangalore girls got their beautiful physique? Or Is it the weather and beauty of Coastal City Mangalore that produces pretty and sizzling women? Or is it just that damsels in Mangalore are simply trying to make a mark in the glamour movie industry by following in the footsteps of other role models? Whatever the reasons are, Mangalore has seen women of Mangalorean origin emerging into the glamorous world of acting, music and entertainment.

Ester Noronha                                  Freida Pinto

Shilpa Shetty                                   Aishwarya Rai

Genelia D'Souza                          Reshma Shetty

Sheethal Mallar                                 Shwetha Shetty

Yes, Mangaloreans should be proud of three International Famed Indian Women actresses namely Aishwarya Rai, Shilpa Shetty, and Frieda Pinto, who all have Mangalore originality. But that's not it, there's more bevy of women added to the Mangalore City's beauty palette, than just these three sensational and glamorous women. Beauty sensation Genelia D'Souza, who happens to be a distant relative of mine from my mother's side of family, is already a upcoming Bollywood actress, model, and a host, born into a Mangalore Roman Catholic family. We also have the Coastal City gift to Bollywood, Reshma Shetty, the super Bollywood agent who is credited for the recent success of Salman Khan. Reshma is also at the helm, managing 'Chammak Chalo' star Kareena Kapoor.

Then how about that svelte, leggy lass, model Sheetal Maller who hails from Padubidri (near Mangalore), who is now a popular figure on International modelling ramps, and who is a modeller for Armani, Fendi, and Maybelline cosmetic products. Then we have Shwetha Shetty, a star in the Indian pop scene, known for her albums and for her contributions to Bollywood film tracks; and also for her appearances on MTV India. And making news just lately, is Mangalorean teen sensation Ester Noronha, who at the teen age of 19 has already three movies added to her movie acting career --two as a Bollywood Star, and one movie as a Sandalwood Star. As Mangaloreans we should be proud of all these ladies from Mangalore, who are bringing name and fame to this great Coastal City.

Well done ladies and make Mangalore proud always. Oh yes, don't come in the way of our very own Talibanis Ram Sene or the RSS.....

Oh and I see our 'USA' based, Pai, trying to make a smart comment.
Original R.Pai, USA Aug 17, 2012
"it may also be noted that Pai and his Peaceful pals have none in the list" says our 'joker' Arun.

Dear Arun,
What exactly you mean by 'Pai and peaceful pals have none in the list' ? Well, I guess I get the second half - There are no names from the 'peaceful' community who are very good in lecturing us on tolerance!! I couldn't figure out the first half - Were you expecting me in the list? smiles...

From a damsel to these Bollywood all I say, " You have all made us proud and the DK in the whole. Keep entertaining us, and our support and God's blessings are with you all. i feel honoured to be a mangalorean girl.

Informative article on Women who have come up or coming up in Bollywood. There are also Male stars like Sunil Shetty and a few others which makes us Mangaloreans proud.

There are many more in the closet

Probably, it may also be noted that Pai and his Peaceful pals have none in the list. When it comes to fair treatment and freedom to women the otherwise bitter foes have many things in common.
Lawrence, USA Aug 17, 2012
Alfie, there are many more in the closet. If they come out and show their talents, the film industry will be shell shocked! They are also capable of instilling good moral, values and virtues in the industry.
