Manipal:
The deceased was the daughter of Karunakar and Geeta Patil, residents of Herga Shetty Beettu.

As she was being dropped by her father on his motorbike, a vehicle coming from opposite direction hit it hard. Kavana fell to the ground and severely injured. By the time she was rushed to the hospital, she had already bled heavily and hence died on the way.

The locals gathered  in large numbers and held a huge protest in front of the Manipal police station insisting that the car driver must be immediately arrested.  MLA K Raghupathi Bhat and district SP Dr Boralingaiah arrived at the police station and met the protesters. They tried to pacify them. Parkala town was closed for a day as a mark of protest.

The car driver has been taken to custody. A case has been registered against him in Manipal police station.

The people of Parkala were angry with Manipal Police because they allowed the driver to go away. People from all walks of life, including parents of different students of BM English Medium School (not BBM), also gathered at the police station and refused to leave till the driver was arrested. Finally, the driver was arrested in Udupi and was brought to Manipal Police Station by the SP.
Another thing: Despite seeing children, parked autos and other vehicles, many drivers -- including bus drivers, drive rashly and try to overtake, leaving the small children's lives in danger. There are no bumpers or humps near the school which is on the Udupi-Karkala state highway.
