Mangalore: The new moon was sighted on the night of Saturday, August 18 and Eid-ul-Fitr will accordingly celebrated in the coastal districts on Sunday, August 19. In most parts of the country, it is expected to be celebrated on August 20.
A large number of Muslim devotees are expected to converge on the Light House hill in the city to attend Eid prayers in the Idgah mosque at 7 pm.

To facilitate smooth conduct of prayers and movement of vehicles, alternative traffic arrangement has been announced by the city police. They will be in force from 6-30 am until the crowd disperses after prayers.
1. All vehicles proceeding from Hampankatta shall take the Falnir or K S Rao Road route instead of Light House Hill Road.
2. Traffic will not be allowed from K S Rao Road or Hampankatta towards Light House Hill during these hours.
3. Parking will be allowed on only the left side of the road from city central library on the Light House Hill until Vijay Bank building near Dr Ambedkar (Jyoti) circle.
Motorists and citizens have been requested to note the restrictions.
