Kasaragod: Suleika aka Zuleika (32), a homemaker residing in Bandyodu, Kayyar under Kumbla police limits in the district, has been arrested on the charge of killing her husband by pushing him into a well of their house on Friday, August 17.
Her husband, Abdul Jabbar (48), was a fashion designer in Mumbai, while Suleika lived in Johny Crasta quarters near Bandyodu, Kayyar. Jabbar used to come on visit frequently. On Friday, the day he had arrived, she is said to told him that the coir rope of the pulley of the well had got stuck and asked him to set it right.

Jabbar accordingly got on top of the enclosure wall of the well and was trying to repair the pulley. Suleika reportedly pushed him into the well. Jabbar did his best to come up with the help of the rope in hand and also taking the support of the pipeline of the pump. But she prevented him from ascending by cutting the rope. Jabbar subsequently drowned and died.
After making sure of his death, Suleika wove a story that another person who was standing next to him while fixing the pulley and rope had pushed him down. But the police got suspicious about her version and subjected her to grilling, when she finally let out the secret.
She confessed to the crime but said that her husband always used to suspect her character and picked quarrels every time he came home. She got disgusted with his attitude and decided to get rid of him, she said. |
