Mangalore: Homestay Assault Case - Two Shifted to Police Custody for Questioning

Published Date: 20 Aug, 2012 (5:49 PM)

Team Mangalorean - Crime Beat

Mangalore: It has been three weeks since the infamous homestay assault took place in Padil on the outskirts of the city. Several statements have been made by the chief minister, home minister, district minister-in-charge and others regarding charging the culprits under the Goonda Act, ever since the incident.

On Saturday, August 18 the city police have obtained physical custody of two of the 22 accused arrested so far, namely Subhas Padil and Ganesh aka 'Kati' Munna, for interrogation for three days, according to well-informed sources.

They also said that preparations are on to book at least these two under the Goonda Act. What has intrigued the public is that the police have managed to arrest only 22 persons, while it was evident in the video clippings that there were more than 30 persons - or even 50, according to neighbours - who were involved.

When an assault operation of that kind took place, it was not possible for all of the assailants not to have known each other. Hence a proper interrogation could have brought out the identities of all the persons concerned.

When the police know the suitable ways and means to make those under custody to open their mouths and tell the truth, it is difficult to be convinced of their inability in identifying and arresting those other than the 22 nabbed by them.

The police may even be aware of the names of those still at large, but there could be 'high-level' pressure against their arrest, feel many members of the public, who are keen to have the ruffians punished.

In the meantime, the home department is said to have submitted an affidavit to the high court, which is hearing a PIL in the matter, that besides 22 out of the accused, two mediapersons also had been arrested. But the mediapersons have confirmed that no such action has been taken against them.

Dear Anner,

Did you get the answer for your questions now?? Would you please answer to my Mangalorean supporters/commentators now.

Please in future think ten times and get the full knowledge and then comment and don't ever support law breaking citizens.
Krishna, India Aug 22, 2012
Anner is not totally wrong.
The hidden truth in Home stay incidence has not been exposed.
The Home stay owner used to pay regular Haftha to Police and Bajarangis.
Mohan Poojari has accepted Rs 5000 for Ayappa Pooja from the owner of Home Stay. There may be few Zeros missing.
There is no doubt that some illicit activities were going on in Home stay.

There were 7 boys and 5 girls in the party. What about the identity of rest of the five boys and media has kept as close guarded secret

Dear Mr. Anner Kudla, India.
Namaskaar Annere,
Answer the following if you have the truth:
1) Which Indian Penal Code says drinking alcohol/beer is wrong or crime for adults tell me?
(Intoxicating himself/self after drinking and intimidating/beating the public is wrong as per IPC. Exactly the HJV attackers accomplished this grave blunder, which backfired them).
2) If the media was not there the High Court Judge would have not traced Goondas and asked report from Mangalore Police Commissioner.
3) Who is stealing another persons freedom tell me, and why? If we have freedom.
5) Why these HJV goons stole the chain, wallet, jacket and money?
6) Who appointed them as moral police? Show me where is their legal appointment letter from governmental authorities.
7) Are they getting salaries from taluk treasury through pay roll?
8) Here the victims have there father & mother & and they are their legal owners who are these HJV goons to attack them.
8) Why should we see on the attacker’s side?! Did the party people attacked them or did they invite them to attack?!
What is the necessity to see on the attacker’s side?! For What?! These are the law breakers. They should be inside four walls permanently so that they should taste how the freedom inside four walls and outside the four walls is.
9) How can you justify their attack on the adults in the name of culture???!!!
10) What is the necessity to look in to attackers/outfits side?!

Shame on Mangalore police. We need a lady commissioner and head of the department who are transparent in perfoming the task. We are not in Bihar we are in Mangalore.

City Police have obtained only TWO for physical Custody, rest where? Earlier news as per pressure from the public 22 were arrested just for name sake.? That means they were not punished !!!

Anner Kudla
You are still justifying the molestation/ attack by your comments. C'mon we live in the 21st century and boys and girls mingling together or having a party in a farm house or going to the beach does not mean anything extreme. Yes there are boys who may try to lure girls for satisfying their desires.I am sure girls are mature enough to not to fall prey. I would be more concerned with girls from poor families (daily wage earners) who are enticed by glamour/money and mostly by people of their own class
Santhu, India Aug 20, 2012
it is for us to use all means to ensure that those responsible are rounded up and due punishment given .. if not history will repeat itself .. who knows our own kith and kin may have to bear the brunt of these third rate goondas. Obviously there must be pressure from the BJP Politicians to hush up the case as these ruffians are required to carry put the saffronisation agenda. Further during the forthcoming elections these 50 odd heros and their buddies will be required to issue threats to the voters. I know of cases wherein these chaps in the guise of canvassing intimidate the illiterate / poor people and offer them money and quarter bottles of "Officers choice"
Anner Kudla, India Aug 20, 2012
Dear Alphonse,
Agree with you 100%. Anyone who take the liberty to hit the women either at home or outside should be punished.(Strict compliance to this at home too matters!) By the way Alphonse dont u agree punishing or checking those who misuse the girls in the name of birthday bla bla bla and spoil the life of innocent college going girls? In a way, if those were poor and aged men women celebrate birthday in a confined area is known as prostitution, (though i am not saying it was one of such case). Alphonse learn to look at both side of the coin.Living far from mangalore or never a mangalorean u dont deserve to publish and tarnish the image of mangalore much on issues!!Mangalore is not what u think .its always a safe place to live..
Alphonse Mendonsa, India Aug 20, 2012
It is evident that there is a lot pressure on Police not to act on the remaining. Also not to punish those who are arrested and no wonder they will be let free for lack of evidence, bla bla.

At least one thing worked this time was PIL from High Court that hold these goons inside still if not they would have been out by now. The public must keep up the pressure and at least these two shall be booked under Gunda Act. The pressure also should bring the remaining in the custody and be punished. THIS TIME DON'T LET THEM LOOSE.
