Udupi: Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat offered Bagina to Swarna River which caters to the drinking and irrigation water requirements of Udupi City in the premises of Shri Siddivinayaka Temple near Manipal End Point here on  August 28.

After offering the "Bagina",  addressed the mediapersons, said, "The tradition of offering Bagina to the river was started by Dr  V S Acharya. Swarna, which is flowing in Udupi district, and is helping a large number of farmers to take up agriculture. The river was providing drinking water to Udupi. I have offered “bagina” on behalf of the people of the district. This year since the sand loads were logged in the river and since it was not dredged over a long time, due to this technical snare there were some problems in May, otherwise throughout the year, for all the 32 wards this river never failed providing water round the clock.

Dr Acharya also advised to make steps to Shimbra Ghats but the budget was not proposed for the plan. We are trying to start the work as soon as possible, he assured.
