Udupi: For people in coastal Karnataka, Sri Krishna
Janmashtami is not a mere festival of the birth of Lord Krishna, but a festival
to share joy with lots of fun and entertainment. Janmashtami for locals is
incomplete without Mosaru Kudike and Hulivesha. Mosaru Kudike, is a festival
similar to 'Dahi Handi' celebrated in Maharashtra and other parts of North
India.
Every street in the city will be geared up to make the festival more
ritualistic and also entertaining. While a section of the Hindu community who
follow Tuluva Panchanga here, celebrate it on September 8. It is celebrated as
Naada Habba all over the city and the temple town is gearing up for the
celebrations on Saturday. There was brisk sale of flowers and fruits at
Car Street on Friday.












On the day of Sri Krishnashtami, Paryaya Sri Sode Vadiraja Math Sri Vishwa
Vallabha Thirtha Sripad will hold offerings (pooja). After Maha Pooja, Swamiji
will offer Naivedya (Prasadam) in the form of laddu, and the work of making
laddus will be held. In the night after the pooja around mid night (12.10
am) Krishna will be offered Arghya Pradhana. “Mosaru Kudike”
habba is also celebrated on the day of Vitla Pindi, where the clay pot
comprising saffron water suspended at a height is broken by wooden poles by
folks dressed as shepherds.
The Paryaya Sode Math is all ready for Krishna Ashtami celebrations, where
nearly 2 lakh chakkulis and laddus will be be distributed to the devotees
during Vitla Pindi scheduled to be held on Sunday.
Tiger Musical is new this year and famous Drums Player's solo
display at the festival; different sort of musical instruments will play during
which Sri Krishna Leelothsava will be held. Bannanje Women's Team will
stage a play. The Shiroor math will be garlanding the hulivesha (tiger dance)
participants with currency notes. Accordingly, the Seer has arranged currency
garland in denomination of Rs . 100, Rs 500 and Rs 100 currency notes worth Rs 8
lakh. Udupi distirct BJP is organizing the ‘Alare Govinda’
programme with the particiapiton of Mumbai-based Sooryoday Kreeda Manda. Around
200 artist of the Sooryoday mandal will demonstrate human pyramids and break
pots tied between high rising buildings at 10 spots of the city.
The police have beefed up security in and around Car Street for the Vitla
Pindi. Special police force have been deployed for the security purpose. A total
of 250 – 300 police personnel will be deployed for the security purpose on the
day of Vitla pindi, said sources in police department. |
