125th Anniversary Celebrations Of St. Aloysius College Takes Off

Mangalore, Jan 5: St.Aloysius College one of the well known and reputed education institutions in Mangalore is celebrating 125 years of its existence. The post centenary silver jubilee celebrations began today. The celebrations will go on till January 12th 2005 when the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Sri.Arjun Singh, will deliver the valedictory address.

One hundred and twenty five years is a milestone and the celebrations will be as memorable as the institution itself. Today the programme well compered by  Mr. Leslie Rego and Miss Melita Pinto  began with a solemn prayer by Prof. Eric Patrao Head of the Department of Mathematics. In a special way he prayed for the Tsunami victims and their families and for the jubilee celebrations. Rev Fr. Francis Serrao the Rector of St.Aloysius College then welcomed the gathering.

This was followed by a short cultural programme where renowned singers like Mr.Henry D’Souza ( Ami Dogi Shezara fame), Claud D’souza, Eric Ozario and his dance troop and Melwin Peris sang to the audiences delight. All time favourites in Konkani and Tulu in the likes of Yeh Yeh Katrina, Jam Zalom were sung and had the whole crowd tapping and clapping to the beat. Pushkal Kumar and Naveen D Padil had the audience in splits with their hilarious enactment of their jokes.

The celebrations of the first day ended with the vote of thanks proposed by
Mr.Manoj Louis, lecturer St.Aloysious College Commerce Department.
