Karnataka Assembly Elections 2008 - Complete Coverage

MANGALORE, April 23, 2008: With the second phase of electioneering beginning today Mangalore and Udupi districts are raging with grapevine. These two districts will come into the second phase for which polling will be held on May 16.

With last day for filing nominations only a few days away the Congress party is endlessly delaying its second list which has given way to endless grapevine also. Suddenly there are maverick ticket hunters and names floated just out of the box! Most amusing aspect of the affair is that everyone appear to be saying that they have got the ticket, but none of them are able to confirm.

The party leadership however is maintaining a dignified silence over the issue of tickets. The names that have come across the board includes that of Suresh Ballal, P.V. Mohan, Gangadhar Gowda, K.M. Ibrahim, Rakesh Malli, Bondala Jagannath Shetty and Kallige Tharanath Shetty. They had applied for the ticket but their applications have been confined to the table of the Congress office in Mangalore.

Congress high command still at work?!

However, the party sources confirmed news that the list including a several probables has reached the Congress office in the district. The list includes Mohideen Bawa for Mangalore North, Ramanatha Rai for Bantwal, Bharat Mundodi or Kripa Alva for Puttur, U.T. Khader for Mangalore, Vasanth Bangera for Belthangady, Dr. Raghu  for Sullia, Ivan D'Souza for Mangalore South and Abhayachandra for Moodbidiri.

The old war horse Gangadhar Gowda and the old faithful Suresh Ballal are now preparing to jump into the fray as independents in Mangalore and Bantwal respectively. The Congress workers are aghast in Puttur after hearing the name of Kripa Alva. She is totally new to the political field and also to Puttur. The workers there are asking how and why should an outsider be foisted on the people of Puttur? But Alva appears to be confident and she could be the ideal candidate for Congress considering the BJP fielding a woman candidate here and on the other side BJP rebel Shakuntala Shetty preparing to take a plunge into the fray as rebel BJP candidate.

The most expected name that has arrived on the scene is that of Bharat Mundodi in Puttur. A party loyalist Mr. Mundodi is the brother of late Nithyananda Mundodi a long time worker of the Congress. Mr. Mundodi is a man for the job as he can marshal resources for a Congress win in Puttur.

I agree with Mr. Faisal. The matter of fighting in the name of religion and for religion has come of late in Indian Politics in India. If we have come so far without the petty matters of cast creed religion and race and are considered a substantial power within 60 years ( mainly in the later part of the 60 years) then we might as well be much more effective in the global stage of politics and economics without the issues that divert national interest and belittle the HARD WORKING, INTELLIGENT and GENUINELY INTERESTED IN PROGRESS WITHOUT PUTTING UP A SHOW unlike many other lands and peoples.

Let us each Indian today ask what can I do today and in the future for my country and for my future( the future of my country men) and not fight for lands the size of under garments and issues so insignificant before the huge responsibility of a Great nation with a great past and civilised society, courteos, tolarent and co-existing.
Let us live and let us progress.

I hope congress candidates are well educated, young, broad minded and willing to work as per the instructions of high command provided it helps to unite & develop the country. We should think of taking the country forward and not backward.

Dear All

To get the ticket for any party is not any big issues. If you provide a vasta that means a influence you will get the ticket in any concerned party.
but think what will be the result. I mean to say we have to save our country without creating any voilencein any religion. We Indians are one and we are proud to be an Indian. This politics makes voilence against religion. Being an indian we have to think what we are doing and what will effect if we creat voilence again the religion. so I request you all to vote for the right party whether BJP or Congress.

My request is that, please dont champion againts religion matter in order to get ticket. champion for the best of our country. if suppose, any party won please try to do good for the country. I assure that if we go without violation against religion one day we Indians will be the super power all over the world. east or west india is the best. please try to save our country.
