Muddu Kanda - Vijaya Karnataka and Ideal Ice Cream give children an edge

Mangalore November 15, 2008: Popular Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka had organised Muddu Kanda photo contest for children below three years in collaboration with the Ideal Ice Cream in the city on the occasion of children’s day on 14 November.

The prizes were given away to the winners at a colorful function organized at the Kuloor office of Vijaya Karnataka daily. The first place was bagged by R Sujan Prabhu son of Sudheer Prabhu and Sulakshana Prabhu (residents of Mahammayi Road), second prize went to K. Shriya Bhat daughter of Dr. K Saidath and Dr. Supriya Bhat of Jeppinamogaru, and the third place was grabbed by Arjun son of Dheeraj and Ambika of Kundapur. Apart from first three prizes, six consolation prizes were given and 30 favorite photos were selected by the judges.

The winners of the consolation prizes are Ankitha Kamath (Kuthar Padavu), Ashana (Korangrapadi), Nidhi (Ambalpadi, Udupi),  Adarsh Rai (Santhosh Nagar, Vamanjoor), Shishir KM (Puttur), and Ayush (Udyavar, Udupi).

The contest was held for children who were less than three years of age. More than 4300 applications were received according to an official of the daily. The contest was judged by top photographer of the city namely Yajna, well known artist Basuma, and Dr Radhika.

Director of the Mangalore Airport M.R.Vasudeva speaking on the occasion said that every child is beautiful and capturing those beautiful faces through photography is an extraordinary talent. He appreciated the managements of Vijaya Karnataka daily and Ideal Ice Cream for hosting this contest and encouraging the children. He congratulated the winners and all children who participated in the contest.

Additional SP Dilip Kumar speaking on the occasion said that role of a news paper was not limited to covering the news alone but they also had the social responsibility of providing a healthy platform for the society to display their talents.

Mr Mukund Kamath partner of Ideal ice cream presided over the function. Mr.Kumarnath gave an introduction of the paper.  Senior Sub- Editor Krishna Bhat welcomed the gathering. Ravindra Shetty compered the event. Harish Rai read the names of contestants and winners.

Resident Editor of Vijaya Karnataka UK Kumarnath and marketing manager Ramakrishna, the judges of the competition and parents of winners were also present on the occasion.
