M’lore girl bags medals in Asian speed skating contest

Mangalore, August 5, DHNS: Mangalore Roller Skating Club member Sharanya Mahesh has won two bronze medals in Under 17 women's relay event during 14th Asian Speed Skating Contest.

The contest was held in Taipe in China between July 19 and 25, informed her coach Mahesh Kumar.

Sharanya who started to skate when she was 5 years old, has won several gold medals in State and national-level contests. She had also participated in the World Roller Skating Championship held in China in the year 2005.

Speaking to press persons, her father and coach Mahesh Kumar said that Central and State Government did not bear the expense of these sports women team. So, the parents with the help of few friends managed to send her to Taipe. It is for the first time that Indian women team has won international medal in relay skating.
