Puttur: Speaking to mediapersons here, Beary Sahitya Vedike Puttur general secretary Kamaruddin Salmara said that it was regrettable that no person of any literary standing had been appointed as member of the Karnataka Sahitya Academy.
He said that a majority of the nominated members had least touch with Beary literature. Thus an insult has been made to Beary literature, he complained. He also alleged that the appointments were made to serve a political agenda by ignoring genuine literary figures.
By appointing such unconnected persons, injustice had been done to real literary persons. They have been pained by this step. Hardships have been put in the way of up-and-coming Beary literary persons in particular and literature in general, he further said.
Kamaruddin cited his own case and said that he had been contributing so much to Beary literature for so many years and had sought membership. Instead, persons with least idea of literature had been appointed. Literature would not develop, but instead perish because of such persons, he added.
Sahitya Vedike president Abdul Samad Bava and M P Abubaqer were present at the media meet.
